Back in April on BoxScene undefeated junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (15-0-1, 10KOs) challenged former champion Paul "The Punisher" Williams (39-2, 27KOs), and Lara vowed to "end his career." On July 9th, Lara will face Williams in an HBO televised main event. The Cuban slugger still appears to be confident of his ability to end the fight with a knockout. He doesn't expect Williams, who returns from a second round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez, to last the distance......................LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE HOW HE BOUNCE BACK,FROM THAT DEVASTATED KO BY MARTINEZ................WOULD NOT BE SURPRISE IF THE CUBAN DESTROY HIM!!!

I think Lara will stop PWill. He was getting ntoo used to first round KOs going into his fight with Molina. He underestimated him as did his trainer. This will be be a better showing and I think he wont look for the KO but it will come in 5 or 6.

hmm... PW is a beast. I don't know how cracked his chin is but beware of judging a fighter off 1 performance.

Seriously guys, PW is a beast and he will take Lara into deep waters. Lara can take what he learned in the amateurs and throw it out the window cause PW goes to war.

If Williams can get past 3-4 rounds without being hurt then he will win the fight and whoop Lara's ass in the process.

Lara needs to test that chin and confidence of Williams early, if Paul gets into his rhythm and gains his confidence back I think he will out box Lara and win. Too many questions still about both guys at this point. I hope its a good fight.

Williams is coming off long layoff and still got hit too much in his career, he's not changing that completely in one fight. The good thing about the layoff is that it may have gotten him time to focus and improve but the bad things about it are ring rust and that we will still have the Martinez/Williams 2 ko fresh in our minds. That ko may have ruined him but if possible he should've jumped back in the ring as he should not have kept his last fight fresh in our minds as it is in mine still. Should be a good scrap but I expect to see the same Paul pretty much. You don't turn a heavy alcoholic to a man sober most of the time in one day.

I see it the opposite way. PW will trouble Lara the first 4-5 rounds due to his work rate and once Lara times him he will start picking him apart and TKO him later on.

Dude its not just one performance. PW chin has been cracked since the first Martinez fight. I dont blame him though. The shots Martinez landed in that first fight were brutal.

yea but look in that first fight how PW gave Martinez absolute hell. Look how deep Martinez had to dig in that fight (he was spent in several of those rounds). Do you think Lara with his 16 pro fights has the kind of ability it takes to do that?

I just don't know about PW's punch resistance after getting knocked unconscious like that (for sure he suffered a massive concussion). For all we know Yuri Foreman could hurt PW at this point.

I agree Shimmy. Lara does need to test PWill's confidence early, see where Williams is at mentaly. We saw Williams comeback from his loss to Quintana like a rabid monster and KO Quintana in one round. But that loss to Quintana does not compare to his loss to Martinez, that is hard to came back from (mentally).

If both fighter show no effect of there previous bad performance, we are in for a great fight. I'm still on the fences on this one. Whats the tale of the tape look like?
