That's a good fight of contrasting styles. Even if Lara won today, it will still be a big, if not his most significant win of his career. GGG might be older but so is Lara, and at a weight class that's not his. GGG-Lara Make it
In theory GGG should beat him, however Lara can stink up the joint and I'm not sure Golovkin could "chase" him down if he chose track shoes that night. If Golovkin catches him he wouldn't be able to keep him off at all, but that's a big if and a boring fight perhaps.
3G's footwork would not be anm issue w/ Lara. In fact, Lara's movement would be his downfall, as he wouldn't land too much to dissuade 3G from his own attack. A slow as heck Angulo had LAra hurt a few times, gave him trouble. 3G KO's Lara.
He destroyed Williams, mopped the floor with Trout, i had him edging Canelo by one. I never really rewatched and scored the Hurd fight. I had him winning by one vs Castano too if i remember correctly. Martirosyan is underrated on this site because Golovkin destroyed him, but i saw a video of him getting the better of Chavez jr in sparring. That being said, i think Golovkin would win, maybe by stoppage once he put it in over drive.
Golovkin wasn't all that fast in the ring even in his prime. He struggled a bit vs guys who didn't move nearly as much as a Lara would. If Lara wanted to play keep away he would at any cost. He'd stay way outside and take low risk hotshots and G wouldn't be able to touch him as much as he'd need to, to earn a clear decision. Alternatively Golovkin could corner and pound him but I think prime Lara is a smarter boxer than that tbh.
You don't need speed to cut off a ring properly. That's foot work, and 3G has that in spades. If Lara played keep away, he's not pot shotting or landing anything meaninful. Lara running too much from Canelo late is what lost him their fight.
Right and that same running is why some have him winning that fight agaisnt Alvarez. So in theory it could work again against an even slower footed opponent like G. That's all I'm saying.
I must admit, as soon I saw his KO of Zerafa, I thought " how would Lara have done against a prime GGG?", you know 'measuring sticks' and all..................just kidding!
I remember posters saying GGG dodged this fight and that Lara was some boogie man I didn't see it that way and felt if Angulo could have the success he had as a much less educated pressure fighter than Golovkin would improve upon that performance. Canelo neutralized a lot of Golovkin's arsenal but Canelo to me is a more dynamic fighter than Lara though Lara may have the harder punch with that left hand and certainly is a better mover than Canelo
Whats the prime version of Lara? The one that just destroyed Zerafa? What’s the prime version of Lara?
He ran TOO Much late against Canelo. He used good movement early on to perform better. And Canelo has no where near the cutting off ability 3G has. That's night and day. I know a lot had Lara winning, but I felt those last few rounds were what cost him that fight.
