Some people has been waiting for Cubans fans reactions and here is mine; Lara did not look impressive , specially th first 4 rds, he was very cautious and trigger shy. Starting the second half of the the fight he was urged by his corner to pick up the pace and land more. Then we saw the fight switching directions and Lara landing at will.Lara showed good footwork and defensive skills.I think he won last night but didn't look the way we expected.I believe that if the fight has gone more rds Lara would've the opportunity to look better. Still, for those saying Canelo kills Lara I mut say ; it's hard to compare when one of them fights legit strong, young contenders and the other blown old welters.
The fight was a losing situation for both fighters, they both should have gotten an L on their record for that shitty affair last night, while the Lara/Vanes fight was going on,my main attention was on the Santa Cruz fight.
Lara is one of the most boring frustrating fighters to watch in boxing, most of the time all he does is throw a feint then throws another feint then stops to admire the work he isnt doing then another feint before moving backwards doing nothing, Talented fighter but throws punches like each of them costs him money.
Hard to disagree with anything you're saying. The guy really only lets his hands go with conviction against woefully overmatched opponents like Ronald Hearns. Be that as it may, he should have gotten the decision last night though, right??
Both fighters take a step back in the chase of getting a pay check Vs. "Canelo". I feared this would happen to them & it did, In one of the threads about this fight I made a comment about both of these fighters MUST shine like it was movie audition in front of Steven Spielberg & both failed miserably back to TV/ESPN for both. They both lost/gained at least another 6-9 month stretch in limbo again. That cut Vanes received is horrible might be out of action for a while. (Longer than usual for a cut) Anyway, Yeah the fight was 2 guys not ready for primetime.
Neither is ready for prime time. Lara might actually never be ready for prime time. The dude is just so cheap with his punches. He never turns up the pace. I think it has to do with bad stamina and a shaky chin. Vanes caught him good a few times and everytime Lara avoided any action for about 30 seconds after each punch. I honestly think the only reason Vanes was getting caught at the end is because he got lazy and started backing straight up instead of to the side like he was doing early in the fight. Vanes also showed us that if you throw a combination at Lara you will catch him with the last few shots and then Lara just retreats so combinations and constant pressure to break him down. I was really disappointed in this fight since I figured they would both look to make this a coming out party.
This is not directed at the folks in this thread, just things Im reading and seeing about this fight. Lara fan bois crying around the web need to calm down. This was a close fight. A draw feels appropriate. I would score the 26 second round a draw round even tho Lara was the only one that landed, it doesn't make sense to award someone that round. I had it as follows: One: even Two: Vanes Three:Vanes Four: even Five: even Six: even Seven: Lara Eight: Lara Nine: even You can look at those even rounds and say I don't know how to score, or we can go back to scoring correctly like the old days, and start scoring rounds that that could go either way as even rounds, rather than just giving them to one fighter to avoid an even round. Yes Lara was coming on, but he was also a little further on in his fatigue then Vanes, and Freddie's plan was to come on late as Vanes explained, for that very reason. Neither fighter lit up the place nor stunk it out. To say Vanes was looking for a way out is absolutely idiotic. Take a look at that cut. Neither fighter can complain about a draw, Lara backed way off too much too complain and Vanes although trying to make the fight, wasn't finding a home for his punches as much as he should have been. The real winner here is freaking Cinnamon Boi....he can keep beating up flys like Solis in real life or career 140s like Josesito Lopez, and never fight Vanes or Lara. It is the perfect result for him. If either fighter had a decisive victory they could make a case to fight Canelo, by negating each other, Canelo won't be pressed to fight either one by the public and certainly not by his promoter.
