H, you got the cigar. The Crashem, bashem great Ted Kid Lewis. Amazing. we have several of Ted Kid Lewis's fights, but NOT ONE of the great rival, the
GREAT Jack Britton, who is forgotten today. Tis a shame .Nat Fleischer til the day he died, had Britton and Ted Kid Lewis ahead of Ray Robinson..Who knows, but he may have been right !!!:good

carpentier was a french war hero.he was a biplane fighter pilot well before the yanks did their usual trick of turning up late.

carpentier also took some easy hand-picked fights....ones that should never have happened..

    ie..

he defended the european heavyweight title again george grundhoven who had one win and one loss...his one win coming against a man with two wins from nine fights {jan kiks}...who in turn had a five fight losing streak before winning against a man who hadnt won a fight at that stage.

go through carpentiers record and its riddled with hand picked easy fights like that

My favourite boxing story is about ted kid lewis ,

in the 1930's the facsist politician oswald mosely was using TK for PR work at his rallies in the eastend of London - TK thought Mosely was just trying to help the working class during the great depression , but many came forward to warn him of Moseley's fascist ideology ,

Born Gershon Mendelhoff it was important for TK to clear this up with Mosely once and for all so when he went to moseleys office he found him for the first time in his brown shirt uniform with two jack booted henchmen flanking him - he fully admitted to TK his support for Hitlers reich and told him of his own anti-semitic views ,

Now realising he had been used and humiliated in front of his own eastend community TK set about all three men and left them all unconcious in a wrecked office - on his way out the building he passed between another two of moseleys brown shirts and pivoting on the balls of his feet knocked them both out with a quick left/right combo .

he casually walked towards his young son Morton who was waiting outside for him , took hold of his tiny hand and walked off down the street whistling to himself .

Its one of those apocraphyl tales that changes with each telling - who knows the real truth ? TK did get a lot of bad press due to his friendship with Mosely in the 30's and its known to have ended with TK hitting him and trashing the office .

I like to believe its all true - the moseleys of this world need to be slapped down by the simple ,strong men like Ted Kid Lewis.
