Pac looked so horrible the first minute of the round he got caught. This was when he was still developing his right hand and his defense. Since then aside from Marquez no one has been able to truly challenge Pac.

What is impressive is that Larios a featherweight was able to do what neither Hatton and Cotto were not able to do go 12 rounds and hurt Pac.

Pac that fought Hatton and Cotto is different animal from the Pac that fought Larios!

Pac that fought Larios was the beginning of the new Pac. Larios wobbled Pac in that round but apart from those 20 seconds where Pac was hurt, he got taken to school from start to end. You could make a solid case that Pac actually won that round too.

He didnt prepare as hard as he normally did for that fight, I think.

And he tried to be cute and showboat a bit that night, for the hometown fans.

It didnt suit him at all.

After he got buzzed by Chololo, he tried to fight less cute and fight seriously.

But it still wasnt his signature buzzsaw style, that night. It was more conservative.

People were half joking that he fought that way because he had a share of the profits from the numerous ads in between rounds, and the longer the fight, the more he earns.

Also, I think it's also because Larios has long arms, and his looping, outside punches are sometimes harder to see and will catch you by surprise. He does have good power.

    Good post.

Shows you how Manny has always been durable. Larios is no slouch.
    At time 56 (36) - 4 - 1. That is pretty darn good.

Also shows how training can make a better fighter.

What's interesting is how Larios managed to match size and strength with Pac that night despite jumping up two weight divisions.

Larios was a pretty big 122 pounder, though.

5'8, I think. Probably taller. Wiry strong, and good skills/fighting heart.

    He's no "stupid noob".

Plus, MP and Larios were at 122 lbs simultaneously, at one point in their careers, and people were talking about a possible round robin match up of Guzman, Larios and Pac.

I remember this! damn, I was barely watching the fight at home, I just had the tv on while I was reading the paper or something. Thought Pac would blast through the guy, suddenly when I checked the tv, there was pac on the ropes being hammered to the head by Larios. That's when I started thinking that Pac had a very underrated chin...

i think pac bet a huge amount on larios finishing the whole 12 rounds.

honestly, never in a million years would i have thought that larios wasnt getting knocked out by pac.

anyway, yeah, after that pac was only clearly wobbled/bothered by one of jmm's body shots and mab's foul punch on the break.

I made it clear this was before Pac developed his right hand and defense. Both Cotto and Hatton on paper should have put up more competitive fights.

Yes he did real good for a fighter going up about 8 lbs over his natural weight.

Pac obviously won the fight but for about 40 seconds Pac looked hurt, boy has he improved.

Larios trained the hardest for this fight, was very thankful he was given a chance. Pac on the other hand, tried to make it fun for the crowd, and got in trouble. Good recovery though. I haven't seen Pac get as careless after this.

This was one of those fights that made Manny the fighter he is today.
The skills Manny has learned in the gym over the years have been seasoned by having to deal with the adversities created by Morales , Barrera, and guys like Larios.

Terrible thread. Manny that fought Larios didn't train hard for that fight while Manny train very hard for the Hatton and Cotto fight.
