Getting very bitter in his old age I also remember him saying he could come back and beat the Klitschko’s in 2010 I think what do you guys think ?
Larry Holmes should shut his pie hole. His time to prove himself was when he was fighting, and instead of unifying belts and fighting his mandatory, he chose to to run from Page, Thomas, and whichever crack addict was holding the WBA belt at a given moment, and to brag about it. Champions go up and down in reputation in different eras, and a lot of guys posting these days remember the big comeback and absolutely love Holmes. More power to them, but IN HIS ACTUAL DAY, the press hated Larry Holmes, and he presided over an era of declining popularity for the sport because of the shitty fights against glorified bar fighters that he put on. He behaved absolutely shamefully at times, bragging "I like fighting little guys for big money," and "if they want me to come back they got to give me someone I can beat." And let's not forget Peter Marciano "living off his dead brother," and "Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jockstrap." Hey Larry, the Rock was a REAL champ who fought #1 contenders. Anyone want to call him great for nineteen (not twenty, nineteen) mostly dodgy defenses can, and yeah, I give him that he is in the middle of the pack somewhere of great champs. But no, a man cannot be a top ten heavy when his two best wins are HIGHLY DISPUTED affairs against good but hardly awe-inspiring Norton and Witherspoon. At least beat them clean. Fan boys coming...1....2...3....
He would beat both Fury and AJ! You may not like his personality but the Easton Assassin Big Larry Holmes is one of the best to ever do this.
Well, yes, in the sense of being a top 15 guy, sure. But people are retroactively acting like he was a top five guy when his two best wins are life-and-death struggles against underwhelming Ken Norton and Tim Witherspoon and...well...Larry is overrated these days. There is nothing unbeatable about Larry Holmes.
maybe aj if he has an off night like Ruiz 1 but there’s no way Holmes beats Fury it’s a new era and Larry wouldn’t cut the mustard against the super heavyweights today
Larry has always been bitter. He has excuses for every loss he has (and even some wins) It’s just Larry being Larry.
I recall Fury saying Holmes was one of his favourite fighters. Just shows Fury is a bit of an idiot at times. You don't praise hostiles.
Fury and AJ would be lucky to retire with a record as good as Holmes'. As of now he'd beat both of them h2h their performances have been good but not great. AJ getting off the floor to beat klitschko, awesome win. But it was an inactive 40 year old man. Fury beat wilder in a stunning performance but I've seen amateurs with better skills than Wilder. When AJ and Fury have wins over guys who are both in their primes and can box worth a damn let me know.
We could have an eight foot heavyweight champion with the speed of Roy Jones, skills of Jose Napoles, and double the power of George Foreman, and Larry would call him a bum or an amateur. Just Larry being Larry.
Who gives a **** if that upsets certain idiots. It’s very, VERY reasonable to favor Fury in a hypothetical matchup against holmes. Both Klitschkos would have stopped him late too.
