He's right. If Shavers hit Wilder, Joshua or Fury with THAT LEGENDARY RIGHT HAND which knocked Holmes down they would have ended up in resuscitation unit imo. Holmes instead got up and won.
Larry Holmes has been saying "these kids haven't learned their craft", "they can't fight", "Frazier, Ali, Norton, Shavers and myself wouldn't even use them for sparring partners" etc. etc. about every generation of heavyweight since about 1986 ! The only times I saw him say good things about Mike Tyson was when he was sat doing a Q&A session with him a few years back. Generally, Holmes's opinion is that the 1970s heavyweights were leagues above everyone who came since.
The heavyweight division is pretty bad. But Larry Holmes fought a bunch of mediocre fighters as well, literally his best wins are Norton and Shavers. I think it's more impressive what he did as an older fighter. The right question would be, can Tyson Fury, Wilder and AJ beat Norton, Shavers, Mercer, or guys like Snipes, Weaver. Whether they can or not, how far off are they from those guys? And weren't Norton and Shavers at the tail end of their career too? And Shavers was nothing special other than this power. Sorry, but Holmes didn't beat killers. He did fight guys in better shape than the usual HW's now.
Fury got up from a Wilder right hand. Joshua got up from a Wlad right hand. WTF is Shavers going to do to them?
Not all the right hands have the same power or are stunning like that of Shavers with Holmes. The prove is Joshua was concussed by a punch of Ruiz who is known he doesnt punch harder than Klitschko.
You people need to stop with this Shavers crap. He was a ****in' joke, an average boxer and he didn't hit anywhere near as hard as advertised, his KO percentage is a joke. He's not even among the top 5 HW punchers.
Not a Great Fan of Larry and the word Bum was not appropriate I think....but this is a very ordinary lot of Heavyweights at the moment.!!!
You're telling me those two FLUSH right hands from two of the biggest punchers in the division didn't carry stunning weight?
For someone with supposedly the greatest jab of all time that's a really bad look. Though he was robbed in the second fight.
