No disrespect to larry, but you didnt have to be nostradamus to predict that Tyson could be in trouble someday, he'd already had the spat with mitch green before fighting larry, although nobody coulda guessed the full extent of it. Didnt Atlas say all this before Holmes, in some shape or form?

No, the Mitch Green street fight came after the Spinks fight.
There had been an assualt on a car park attendant incident reported in 1987 but it was kind of hushed up, an anomaly, and apart from some post-fight comments, Tyson had thus far been the quiet ultra-polite lisping angel in most public interviews. His raw ghetto side of his nature was being carefully hidden by Jim Jacobs management, and he was mostly impeccably behaved.
Holmes was certainly the first person I'd ever heard say Tyson was a punk who was going to self-destruct.
And I remember 4 years later when Tyson was going to jail, Holmes was being called up by news stations to comment because of what he'd predicted years earlier.
I have to give Holmes credit for that one - he was right.

Your correct. My mistake. I may have got my timeline a little mixed-up with the mitch green streetfight but it wasnt as if larry was giving us the lottery numbers or anything.

Just as an aside,a very well known boxer told me 15yrs ago that he wouldnt be surprised if herbie hide went the same way as tyson. When i said to him that he used to sing Hides praises on the tv and the papers, he said to me "Well i can hardly call him a **** can i?". Funny thing is (well maybe not funny) that Hide has been done for ****, though i dont know whatever came off it

To me Larry only really has 3 losses in 75 fights. One of them against Peak Tyson & another against Peak Holy!

I scored Spinks II, McCall & Nielsen bouts for Holmes.

True, Larry wasn't revealing anything particularly surprising about Tyson but I give him credit for speaking his mind when others were just going along with the Jim Jacobs/Steve Lott/Bill Cayton pretense about Tyson being a gentle soul outside the ring.
And Holmes was bang on when he said, "he'll be in jail in 5 years". 5 years later where was Tyson ? In jail.

Hide was a bit silly, it's true. But he was never going to be a great fighter anyway. He must have made some good money in boxing though.

The difference is, Hide actually raped...

  8. Holmes lost to Maurice Harris and got a gift, sure he was old but that is no excuse.

I haven't seen that fight, but he was 48 years old ffs.

  10. true he was old but i heard larry holmes bash foreman for losing to tommy morrison. I would rather lose to Morrison than to Harris. Holmes was and still is a idiot.

You looked at the case but overlooked the vaginal tearing & bruising consistant with **** which in effect meant there was no vaginal lubrication, ie she was not aroused and he would have had to have forced her. And don't be 1 of those idiotic nuthuggers who say's 'that's because Tyson's dick's so big', you've spend long enough jacking off while watching him in his posing pouch, you know there's **** all there

No one is having a conspiracy to throw a multi-million dollar athlete in prison with all the revenues he creates. And I'm a known Tyson fan but he clearly thought the rules didn't apply to him and he could do what he wanted

This is definitely true. Who knows what really happened, but ultimately he got what was coming to him, and he never learned from it, because he was still acting the same way towards women even after prison. Tyson believed he was above the law and everyone in public and was clearly a guy, who without guidance, was heading for the continuous train wrecks that became his life. Thats something that people dont take into consideration when they discuss his career. He could never sustain greatness on his own, he needed the proper reinforcement in his life because he basically grew up as a wild animal. The same no limits he had as child became his life again once he separated from the white folk in 88. :yep

Indeed we don't know for sure, the evidence points to it fr me though and the whole hero worshiping brigade who disparage someone who is quite likely a **** victim sicken me. It is very unlikely a **** victim will ever see any justice given 1 in 6 women in America have been raped and sentencing certainly doesn't reflect that statistic.

As a child Tyson was never given discipline, good role models, ethics, or probably love until he came to Cus. Cus did give him discipline and love and he was certainly a disciplined youth to get where he got. But he was effectively spoilt with getting success, money and fame too early, had anything he wanted and was surrounded by disingenous yes men.

I wonder if Cus stayed alive if he could have instilled self discipline into Mike, or if Mike was pretty much curropted before he goto Cus, or if Cus simply let him get away with allot because he was such a prodigous talent. It seemed like Don King was his father figure replacement after Cus died, would Tyson have bought all the brotherhood bull**** if Cus was around? Who knows

I'm reminded of the old saying 'give me a boy until he's 7 and I will show you the man'
