The real question would be who would win a Marciano vs Holmes fight. Of course, we will never know for sure. My pick would be Marciano.

Holmes takes him with ease imo. Just too much skill for Marciano. He will also have a big height, reach, weight and speed advantage. Holmes's jab completely negates Marciano's work.

One of the things with Holmes is that Witherspoon might not have had many fights by that time but his performance in there with Larry turned out to be arguably the most impressive of his career

IT is no comparison. Holmes fought far more , better fighters than Marciano. Only the regular Rocky nut huggers will deny this.

we are judging them both on the first 48 fights. so holmes didnt fight far more. i think if we attempted to name the best ten of holmes first 48 fights we'd be touching on some quite ordinary fighters and the same probably goes for marciano. its worth noting that Rocky took on Charles and Walcott and LasTraza twice each - 3 of his toughest foes

Larry was too open to the right hand. Rocky would get his licks in, no worries.

Just on there first 48 or so, I think Marciano has the edge with Walcott, Charles, and Moore.

I cant really put the likes of Cooney, old Norton or L Spinks in that type of group imo. In fact I am more impress with Marciano battling Louis down than Holmes did to the corpse of Ali. Louis was at least still thowing punchings and was competeing in that fight, were I really dont recall Ali thowing any punchings worth wild.

Old Louis, Charles and Walcott were better than anyone Holmes faced except maybe Norton, Holmes though was a great fighter this is not to belittle him but it is the truth.
