Larry Holmes is 75 years old today...

Happy 75th to the man with one of the best Jabs I've ever seen.

 

Happy Birthday, Larry! I never understood the hate directed at him, he beat Ali, that's true, but what was he supposed to do, refuse the fight? Ali wanted the fight with Larry, and Larry did what a champion does by defending his title. Holmes even said he didn’t want to hurt Ali and didn’t put much power into his punches toward the end of the fight and he cries after beating Ali. Holmes defeated a 38 year old Ali, and Tyson defeated a 38 year old Holmes it comes out to the same thing.

 

Hope he hangs around for a good while longer

Let's take a trip down memory lane and see a 29 year old Holmes decision Ken Norton.

 

I thought Holmes won it a little easier than history remembers on the cards, though he was pushed hard physically, needless to say. The myth of his bad arm needs to die.

 

What if he wants to make a comeback? Holmes is probably like "That Usyk guy don't look so tough. No way he can deal with my jab"

Great great fighter. Perhaps not the most likeable personality wise and not the most entertaining but he deserves immense respect for maximizing his ability.
