anytime iv ever seen larry interviewed he has come across as verfy open, crushingly honest and decent....the larry and muhammed biography is a case in point, dont see how the guy should be villified for speaking his mind, he is one of the hw champs id love to meet

 

Fair dues Bill - as I said I may be wrong (and I very well maybe) - how am I to know really - the guy just comes across a an arse on TV and some of the things he has don't reek of self obsessedness (if thats a word) - but he maybe the nicest guy in the world but I wouldn't really know because I don't know the guy - all I can do is tell you the impression I get from the way I think he comes across - ie I think George Bush is an king sized arse and I think Obama is arse twice the size of George Bush - and for that matter I think Don King is an arse etc etc - I don't really know because I don't know them personally but they just come across as people I really don't like - all three of those have no doubt done their share of nice things aswell as bad I'm sure (leading some to think they're nice people) but then you know it's like you just get an instinct for when someone is an arse and Larry Holmes just comes across that way big time - but again I could be completely wrong - how would I know?

 

Larry shows many decent moments. I like his honesty. I like the fact that he's not kissing Ali's ass all the time, like the others. Sure, I wouldn't want to **** him off, but he's pretty entertaining to listen to. I'm a huge Foreman fan, but I must say that I wish George had fought Holmes in the '90s. It would've been great....don't blame Larry for being pissed about it then, though he should drop it now.

 

Never really understood why Larry is so bitter. He wealthier and more famous than 99.5% of all fighters who have ever lived. I realize he resented being in Ali's shadow but I doubt Charley Burley or Jimmy Bivins could have even afford to buy one of the many properties that Larry is able to control.

Very true. I'm proud of Larry for having the skills to back up his boasts, though. He really is one of the best ever. At least top 5-7. Somewhere in there.

I did find it ****ing funny when Shannon Briggs talked all that crap to Vitali at the Press Conference, and then got his butt handed to him in the fight. Irony at its best.

 

The 2nd statement is silly. He is not owed any more credit for beating that version of Ali than the minimal credit he does get.

The 1st statement is acceptable. Cooney was better than history ultimately made him out to be, and it was a misfortune to have an ATG the caliber of Holmes in his path.

Bill that is what Larry Holmes claims today. In reality he didnt want to fight Foreman period. If he did he would of said he had a broken hand in 1976. He weighted 30 yerars to use that excuse

 

Larry Holmes told Bert Sugar in 2005 that Foreman has trouble with "Stick and move" fighters (Ali, Jimmy Young, etc) and because of that, he ducked Larry.

Big George did have trouble with Jimmy Young, so maybe Larry has somewhat of a point. However, I'm not sure if George had trouble with Jimmy's style, or if it was because George tried to pace himself in that fight.

 

Is that why he frequently called George out from the early 90's up until about a year or two ago?

When George and Larry signed to fight in 1999 and the promoter failed to come up with enough money to pay George and Larry in full, for once in his life Holmes accepted the pay cut when he didn't have to and it was George, not Larry who pulled out of the fight.

 

Too bad Larry wasn't so willing to take a pay cut to make his mandatory fight against Greg Page take place! hehehe
