Only prime Joe Louis and 60s Ali could have beat him, though I imagine Liston and Frazier would have presented problems (to say the least). I have him #3 ATG.
Actually it’s quite the opposite he’s overatted if anything, personally I think he’s below the likes of Riddick Bowe, Foreman, Ali and Mike Tyson H2H by a hair. But that’s just my opinion!
Snipes almost had at him, if Foreman, Tyson or Liston make that same collusion I believe the fight would be finished. I think all three of those fights are quite even however.
I've got Holmes #3 ATG at heavyweight and Top 5 H2H. Head-2-Head 1.) Mike Tyson 2.) Muhammad Ali 3.) Joe Louis 4.) Larry Holmes 5.) Riddick Bowe 6.) Sonny Liston
Yeah I kind of agree here. I don't think he's underrated that much and he did struggle with a lot more challengers than most. And he is my second favorite heavyweight behind Mike Tyson but ahead of Bowe and Dempsey.
Was about to laugh at your post and say ydksab because I thought that said Ruddock instead of Riddick I still don't agree but it's not an unreasonable view at all.
i think Larry Holmes would beat Foreman but thats because styles make fights. Overall they're on the same level imo
I agree though I think Holmes gets more credit these days now that his era of HW doesn't look so bad compared to the past 20 years
Yea your right, I didn’t know so many people had a high opinion of him. Made this thread because I thought he was somewhat forgotten h2h, guess he just isn’t talked about enough for the reasons you just mentioned
Hypothetically, if every HW champion in history had a round robin against all the others, all at their peak, I think there is a very strong likelihood that Larry emerges with the best winning percentage of them all.
I'd rate Holmes in the top 3 all time great heavyweight list definitely. And the second best heavy in my lifetime (I was born in 1955) In my opinion he gets a fair rating on this site.
