    Toney is secure......

"Hagler, LaMotta, LaPorte, Foreman & Ali" is hard to beat.... But Toney is right there.....

Toney and Holmes were supposed to fight sometime back in the mid-to-late 90s. There was a brief period where both fighters' camps exchanged barbs. Holmes referring to Toney as a "midget" and Toney calling Holmes "flabby and sick". hahaha. It would have been a fun fight to watch. Considering how well Toney did at heavyweight later on, dare I say Toney might have snuck home with the win?

Sam peter was heavy hands but never showed to be a real KO puncher at the world class level.
and who else did toney fight ?

holmes fought shavers, cooney, Norton, witherspoon, bonecrusher, Weaver. His chin was far more proven

Better and tougher Holmes, and he proved it by taking hard shots at heavyweight. Some of the shots Holmes took from Shavers, Conney, and Snipes would have put James' lights out.

Better in a p4p sense, maybe Toney, though middles do not hit nearly as hard as heavyweights. You have to spar with both weight classes to truly appreciate the difference. The heavyweight jab is often as hard as the middle weight knockout punch.

James cover and counter style limited the amount of direct shots he took, while Holmes was more of an aggressive fighter who jabbed, crossed, and threw combinations, meaning he was more open to getting hit.

James... He did across multiple divisions. He was out of shape at heavyweight 90 percent of the time. When your out of shape your more prone to get ktfo, but still james wasnt... Don't give me that crap that he didnt fight huge punchers. Rahman has scorching power n peter had very good clubbing power. He had 85 fights your defence alone doesnt get you through that many. Look at his recent fough, weight drained n still wasnt knockedout by a huge punching cruiser.

The point that some of us are trying to say is; put Toney against Julian Jackson, gerald mcclellan, Nigel benn and others of that caliber punching power and we may have seen him rattleD at some point. Holmes fought bangers and with less of a defense (compared to Toney) he was hit clean by these guys. Holmes chin is faaaaaarrrrr more proven than toneys. Ali, who we all would agree had an all-time beard said shavers hit him the hardest; but he didn't get hammered the way holmes did. Holmes should have had his neck broken from that shot. Put toney in that same position against Jackson and I bet he gets hurt at least as badly as holmes did against shavers.

McCallum had lesser defense , lesser punch resistance and was older than both Jackson & Toney and c what happened . Now u suggest that Toney was protected because of him not fighting lightmiddle Jackson ?
I think Reggie Johnson was a sterner test at d time Toney had d IBF 160 belt than 31-32 years old Julian Jackson , no disrespect 4 Jackson .

Anyway fighting Rahman & Peters removed all doubts if there were any .
D only thing that Peters hurt Toney with were his well delivered rabbit punches .
For all of his good defense Toney was hit quite a lot during his prolific career and being out of shape and weight drained didn't help him either . Yet he was hurt very rarely and never stopped . No smelling salts , rarely clinched and rarely retreated , never lowblowed himself out of trouble and never fouled in general , Toney was 1 of d hardest 2 hurt fighters ever .

Just to clarify, I am not suggesting that Toney was protected. I'm just saying that we didnt get to see him get nailed by the caliber of punches by the caliber of punchers as Larry Holmes was hit by. None of what I am saying should be deemed as a put down of Toney quality of opponents. mccallum is a MUCH better overall fighter than Jackson, Mcclellan or Benn; but he didn't hit harder.

He was a fat old washed up fighter by the time he moved up to cruiser an heavy. Yeah he didnt fight Jackson so what.. He moved up to to cruiser an fought Jirov, heavyweight an fough Rahman an peter. All way above his natural weight an wasnt hurt. I doubt Jackson would have hurt him.

any version of either gets KO'd by the Tyson that KO'd Holmes...Toney showed good whiskers against Holyfield and Rahman but that does not add up to Tyson....who had the better chin? Toney was not as open to the right hands as Holmes but Larry showed good recuperative powers when dropped but Snipes and one shot shavers does not add up to Tyson as a class puncher either....both had good chins
