    He stopped Zanon in a one sided fight. May not have been his sharpest but he dominated. Smith and Williams were both physical giants , young and highly motivated fighting a post 34 year old Holmes who lost a step or two but he still prevailed. Smith had just destroyed Bruno while Williams was an outstanding former amateur who was a young Turk in the division. These were tough fights for an older champ to take and it showed. That said he did pull through in both.

    I agree with this assessment 100%, I like Larry as a personality & he is fun at a party but he avoided too many tough challenges and rematches as champion and never unified to avoid the tough matches. He even gave up a title not to fight Greg Page
