I was talking to a few people, and apparently Larry's brother Floyd was the most talented out of all of the brothers. He is truly a boxing genius, he won't tell you what you did wrong, but he will tell you what to do to get the other guy. His only problem was he was, and still is, lazy, and not willing to work like Larry and Mark did. The Holmes' could have been a better boxing family than the Mayweathers if they would have put their minds do it. I just thought this was kind of interesting. It is a very athletic family. Larry's granddaughter is a top state track runner, and his grandson is a very good wrestler.
That was Mark, he was a middleweight that fought on a lot of Larry's undercards. He went 38 and 1. He is very skilled. Even now as he weighs about 50-60lbs above his fighting weight he makes younger guys in their primes look like fools without even trying.
the willingness to work is in and of itself talent. otherwise marciano, louis, robinson, mayweather, et. al. would never have reached the top. talent is as talent does. those who win are talented. those who are could haves and would haves and should haves are less talented. that is the litmus test. the rest of this kind of speculation is fodder for pencil necks.
Truthfully Bill, I don't know that much about Larry's siblings or their abilities. Mark Holmes apparently started off with an impressive looking record on paper, but as soon as he stepped up against a decent fighter, was beaten rather handedly. As for Floyd Holmes? I don't think I've ever heard of him. I suppose the Holmes family had a lot of good athletes as you mentioned, but few families ever produce multiple all time greats. Of course there are exceptions as we all know. Look at the Manning family. You have 3 great professional quaterbacks, and a fourth who is still in college.
I doubt you've heard of Robert Holmes too. There are like 11 of them. Jake, Larry, and Mark are just the biggest names. Floyd can be seen in Larry's corner in the Mercer and Esch fights.
