How is it I've never heard of this before?? That's messed up. What was the story with all the wife stuff? Anyone know?

I think that you are making those "old times" up in your head. You act like that **** happened all of the time back then. I think that maybe you would be more interested in professional wrestling.

 

Nah, I'm not making those old times up. These stuff actually happened back then (not regularly at every press conference, but far more often than nowadays).

I still remember Ali pushing Liston into the first fight, even lying on the hood of the departing car of Liston (with Liston in it) just to get under his skin and get him into a fight.


I remember some street fights of champions and challengers meeting up accidentally prematurely (and wanted to get that edge first). That was some real ****. None of that fake choreographed wrestling stuff.

Nowadays these dignified champions say or do nothing at press conferences...and when they speak it's half meant empty praises.
Back in the days, a press conference was actually exciting as there were some serious talks. Each conference had some great quotes that would go all over the media around the world. The fighters didn't like each other and it showed fireworks both inside aswell as outside the ring. Nowadays you can only hope to see a few seconds of some kind of fireworks inside the ring (let alone outside).

 

Holmes and Berbick actually had real issues outside of the ring. What street fights are you talking about?:think

Whitaker and Ibragimov fought not too long ago at the press conference. Personally, I think that it's lame when a boxer can't be professional enough to wait until they get into the ring. If they want to do a little trash talking, whatever... a lot of people like that. However, assaulting a person outside of the ring is just ******ed.

As far as Ali, he simply played headgames. It isn't like Ali was out there sucker punching people, and getting into street fights. You really aren't proving your point.

 

That is just simply untrue.

It might seem that way because we can now look back on a bunch of memorable moments from the past. You may be able to think about some memorable press conferences... but you have decades to look back upon. Right now, we are watching fight by fight, so it never seems like there is as much going on. Hell... Mayorga has came up with just as many quotes as anyone you are talking about, and look at David Haye, Mayweather, Hopkins, and James Toney. All of them do the same stuff.

Larry Holmes was a REAL Champion. Not like the Klitschko Sisters. Larry would have KO'd the Ghost of Hasim in 2. Waldo looked terrified to engage. That is part of his problem. The Heart of the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz.
