I'd be very interested to hear Big George's reply (or at least have him asked point blank if the disrespect for Larry was real or imagined).

Any plans to have him on the show? :deal

That would be cool! Hopefully it happens...

The Holmes v Foreman fight almost happened a lot. 1999 It was supposed to happened and I remember in 2004 I heard that it could happen with a one return bout with George. But it fell through.

I love Larry but let's be real. He needed George, George did not need him. George figured risk reward at that age and point and was making a zillion dollars with his grille and figure why do I need this ? Larry's attitude did not help. George is very smart and likely aid "fu-k him."

George Foreman spent most of his career - or BOTH careers, if you like - taking on the easier fights, shrewd masterful matchmaking. Dick Saddler groomed him that way.
Gil Clancy and Howie Albert managed him 1975-77 and it's the only portion of his career where his schedule lacked such a keen eye on picking easy foes, and George almost got KO'd by Ron Lyle and lost to Jimmy Young.

Truth be told, I remember something about Larry Holmes saying NO to a Foreman fight around '76 or '77 but it was a money thing, and perhaps Holmes being offered it at late notice for peanuts purse.

No, the fight went to a stablemate in 77 and Holmes was apparently not 100% and had an injury. Injury or not, the purse was $200k and 40x more than he'd made, so you have to feel the injury was legitimate at the time.

I think it was in '76, when he had a broken hand.

I stand corrected. It was an injury, not money. :good

I think a young Larry Holmes would beat a young George Foreman, but I also feel a older Big George wins a close fight against Larry Holmes if they did fight in 1999, in either case its a shame that these to never squared off in the boxing ring.

I agree Holmes had the style to beat a young version of Foreman who did get tired after 5 rds but its not a sure thing George could crack with that right hand....the older versions favors George by a close decision but could be close...good work with the interview

Ya with the young Foreman all Holmes would of had to do was box from the outside and use his jab taking the fight into the later rounds where Foreman would be gassed and would either lose by decision or late KO, cause that Foreman was not quite the same beast in the ring after the Ali fight and was going life and death with Lye, going 6 rounds with the well past it Joe Frazier, and of course losing to Jimmy Young....but when Foreman came back he was a much calmer in the ring and could be late in a fight and still have energy and win fights as shown during his last 4 fights which all went 12 rounds....so if Holmes fought that Foreman I think he would lose a close decision some where around 6 rounds to 4

Yep Foreman got tired in every 5 after 5 rounds because he got tired against Ali and showed in Puerto Rico a day before the fight with Jimmy Young and his body wasnt used to the heat. Good God could you people come up with something new? Every fighter gets tired but if Foreman does it then he is the worse fighter in boxing history.

Foreman fought easy opponents in his first and second career? Alot of people in his first career also fought Ali, Frazier, and Quarry so they must of fought easy opponents as well. Alot of fighters in his second career also fought Tyson, Holyfield, Morrison, and Bowe so they should be put down as well. Rocky Marciano spent his whole career fighting bums and washed up has beens but is never put down for it so why keep putting down Foreman?

Holmes seem to be a homosexual in love with George Foreman, in every interview Holmes has to mention Foreman avoiding him which is a lie or bring up how Foreman lost to various fighters like Holmes never lost. Holmes is a joke who is jealous of Foreman's popularity and realizes he will never be that popular

Holmes has no style besides struggle to beat people guys like Foreman, Bowe and Lewis would destroy. Holmes couldnt keep a washed up Norton off him, Holmes struggled with guys like glass chinned Mike Weaver and a young Tim Witherspoon. Holmes could never keep Foreman off him and would be knocked out
