I think Larry would put a beating on Chagaev. Probably knock him out anywhere between the 3rd or 5th rounds.

I don't know. That Larry Holmes was shot, and Chagaev was able to beat Valuev and Ruiz.

Larry would outbox the **** outta Chagaev.

And Chagaev fights scared. He doesn't fight like Tyson who gets inside and makes his opponent move.

Chagaev fights like an amateur. High guard, 1-2, step out.

That **** is too ordinary to give Holmes any trouble. I'm sorry, but even if you believe that Larry was shot, which I don't agree with cuz he definitely appeared to have something left, but of course not in his prime, but that Larry would make Chagaev look like the average fighter that he is.

    UD?

    Are you ****in kiddin me?

Larry was able to tag Tyson with some hard shots, and even gave him trouble, outboxing him for most of the fight, yet Chagaev who doesn't even fight like Tyson because he has no speed, no power, can't throw hooks and uppercuts, and doesn't stay inside could beat Larry Holmes?

    Get outta here.

The guy is a ****in chump.

6 rounds? Holmes is not a puncher. How does Chagaev match up to the fragile glass chinned Gerry Cooney, who went 13 rounds. At least Chagev seems to take a very good punch.

Larry won at best, one round against Tyson.

And most of the fight ?

    It didn't last four rounds.

Chagaev would almost certainly outpoint that Larry.

Prime Larry KOs Chag in the first half of the fight.

I don't think that there is any guarantee that Chagaev would " fall " in any round vs the shot version of Holmes who fought Tyson. Larry was 38 years of age, off for two years and was in horrible condition. A prime Holmes would have been a different story, and perhaps so would have been a 1992 version who was at least fighting actively again. Holmes was at a career low in 1988. Chagaev would have had my vote to take a close decision in what would probably be a very boring and disappointing match..

An even more shot version of Holmes beat an undefeated Mercer by UD three years after that fight and went the distance with Holyfield. No one did to Holmes what Tyson did.

    Exactly...

Yet Chagaev the monster wins...despite having a stylistic disadvantage and being weaker than Mercer and Holyfield.

At the end of the thread title it says "What round does Chagaev fall?". I answered, "he loses UD". As in Chagaev loses a UD. He outboxed Mercer AFTER losing to Tyson. But I don't know, I'm not sure.

As someone mentioned earlier, Holmes as at a low ebb against Tyson, because he had been off for two full years, and had only a few weeks (8?) to train. The Holmes who fought Mercer and Holyfield had renewed his commitment to the sport and was and active fighter in better condition.

That said, the Klitschko fight suggests that Chagaev would always have trouble against an educated fighter with skills and a good jab.
