Larry Holmes the H2H goat?

Who exactly you are talking about? In fact, Lewis never gave the rematches to the guys he had beaten with some controversy or questions left. And he promised them both to Vitali and Mercer. While, at the same time, was chasing absolutely pointless rematch against a ghost of Mike Tyson whom he battered like a drum in utterly one-sided fight.

Compare that to Joe Louis, who gave the rematches to Conn, Buddy Baer, Godoy and Walcott. Or Ali who gave rematches to Liston, Frazier, Quarry, Cooper and Norton

 

Holmes had remarkable recovery powers which helped him many times during his career against noted punchers and may well have beaten Foreman and it would have been a great fight no doubt .

Holmes was a bad man even past his prime. He gave Holyfield a pretty tough fight when Holyfield was peaking. His Jab is h2h the best I've seen at HW.

H2H there are plenty of HWs I think beat him. As an example, I don't think any version of Holmes beats 88 Tyson. It's just a terrible match-up for him.

 

I agree with this statement. Larry is a top 15 at least HW champ. His jab alone breaks him into the top 25.

 

Larry Holmes was a tremendous Heavyweight. He had a great collection of skills which would make him difficult to beat. I have him behind Lewis and Ali in head 2 head but it is all very close and wouldnt be suprised if he beat either in a hypothetical fight.

 

Cooney was a world class heavyweight and would be a world champion in the 4 belt era. He just ran into an ATG at the height of his powers
