Holmes was just approaching his peak here, looks good to me, (I didn't listen to the commentary, I'm fairly sure Cosell would be talking rubbish as usual). Noticed Holmes is wearing trunks very similar to Foreman's. Although Foreman's have "G F" is big white lettering on one of the legs. I find it amusing to imagine Holmes borrowed George's shorts and put something over the initials, but that's kind of unlikely ? Good video. I see Holmes took a big left hook, but he dominated so completely that people will not talk about it. Was that Padilla? He could have saved Robinson some punishment, imo. He let it go a few seconds too long.
I notice that Howard cosells later disgust for unnecessary punishment is entirely absent back in those days. Perhaps it was not yet fashionable?
Thumbs up. I'm a Holmes fan and do not recall seeing this one. Will watch it later. I have said numerous times if Holmes fought Foreman instead of Young and defeated Foreman, he's a lock for top 1, 2, or 3 of all time.
Not sure if Holmes would have been quite ready for Foreman at that particular point,Mendoza. Obviously he already had the tools to do it but I think Larry needed the confidence boost of that first win over Earnie Shavers a year later in order to be ready for the elite of the division.
He wasn't ready for the bomb Shavers landed either, but hindsight tells us he can get up and win the rest of the rounds. So he proved he could. Holmes had an even better jab and durability in comparison to Young. He's take Foreman, who was a mental mess at the time.
No, because, unlike Young, Holmes would have at least tried to mount some sort of offensive and would have got knocked out. Young was in to survive.
