Holmes had all the tools to deal with Foreman prime vs prime #1 great jab,#2 great chin/recuperative powers/ #sneaky fast straight right hand, #4 stamina. # 5 confidence, couldn't be intimidated. With those advantages I see a Holmes victory, late stoppage or unanimous dec.
Prime for prime I see holmes nailing this one. Early round s he s keeping out of George s way whilst whipping that jab in his face. He'll be on intense radar look out for foreman s booming punches and constantly on the move. Foreman will get frustrated at this inability to get past holmes jab. The fight will turn in to a bitterly fought one with dirty tactics coming from both guys. If this is a 15 rounder, then can see holmes opening up and catching foreman in the 13 th with a fast hard over hand right. At this stage George is worn out and the kd will be to much. Foreman gets counted out.
I would like to put Foreman higher on my list over holmes but thats not realistic. Unless Holmes fights s dumb fight and brawls he would lose but going by how the fighters fought you assume they come at how they usually fight,Foreman and Young all over again with the exception Holmes is better. No fight tells me foreman would be favored here.Holmes also handled /stayed with Ruddock in sparring he could handle tall power punchers,he also gave holyfiled a more competitve fight than foreman did...all around and in any era holmes out boxes foreman, george knew this and never fought Holmes.
I think it's a toss up. Larry was heavily staggered by much lesser fighters and punchers but he also had great powers of recuperation. George however was a couple of levels above those he recuperated against. It's a great match. George stops him in the first half or Holmes gets the decision. I am talking the Foreman up to and including the Ali fight, not the version who remodelled somewhat and had to come to terms mentally with not being unbeatable.
I'm in this camp, too. I do not believe, as some might, that Holmes would have been able to replicate Ali's feat against Foreman. Holmes needs to last the distance for the decision win. Foreman needs to hammer Holmes into involuntary submission for the stoppage win. Flip a coin...
It's not cut and dry. Prime Holmes had real problems with guys a couple of levels below George (Snipes, Shavers, Witherspoon). Prime Foreman obliterated fighters who were or only just below Larry's level (Frazier, Norton). Larry's not rope-a-doping George. He has to keep moving for as long as it takes and George cuts a ring off well in his prime (or any time, for that matter). I could actually see George winning by close UD as he piles up an unassailable lead in the first ten rounds or so as Larry's negative survival tactics don't go down too well with the judges. Larry finishes the stronger in the championship rounds but George hangs on, Larry moans about the judges, the media, the ref, the weather, George's corner etc and George swears to himself never to give Larry a rematch.
Good point. Larry Holmes fell asleep sometimes in my view. I think he might have lost his concentration. Against Foreman I think Larry would be on point because he would know that Foreman was so dangerous. I see Larry getting off the canvas to comeback dig in and take Big George into deep water. I like Holmes by TKO around the 10th.
I can see either fighter winning this one. Okay, Larry has all the tools to beat Foreman, but like it's already mentioned, Holmes got seriously hurt against lesser fighters and was often drawn into brawling. Let's forget Big George was one of the best finishers the ring has ever seen and Larry's macho man tendencies may spell trouble for him in this one.
Agreed, Larry has the tools ,,,but, George gets him in trouble and they'll bee no coming back. A real 50/ 50 fight
Foreman hammers home a Shavers like right hand and this time Larry doesn't recover. If the limited Shavers could almost stop prime Holmes and limited Mike Weaver and Renaldo Snipes could badly shake him, Foreman.................could lay him out for the stoppage win.
