ali and foreman MIGHT be able to beat walcott and charles on the same night, norton, frazier and holmes would be massive outsiders to achieve that. I doubt any fighter ever would have been keen to sign that contract, the first guy does damage or goes the distance and you're ****ed. there are barely any examples of someone beating two world level fighters within the same week, let alone the same night.
Bob Fitzsimmons ko'd Gus Ruhlin and Tom Sharkey, the two top contenders to Jeffries, in the space of a fortnight. Jack Johnson beat Joe Jeannette, 6 days later Young Peter Jackson, next day Jeannette again.
i think langford did it too, but within a week is still barely comparable to on the same night. an even better example of the difficulty of facing multiple fresh opponents (in case common sense aint enough) can be seen through the success of reserve fighters in the early ufc tournaments.
Holmes beats Jersey Joe comfortably over 15 rounds. He will lose a few rounds (possibly 4-5) though and know he's been in a fight.
Walcott had the stuff to beat both, but because he'd be the smaller guy, many would make Ali and Holmes the favorite. Walcott at 6' 196 pounds would be big enough, but still smaller than the 6'3 209-215 pounds Holmes. Still a close fight.
Walcott had better footwork, better move of head and more pop with more variety of punches except with the jab. Walcott had a much more beautiful style than Holmes. I was the stupid one who said years ago that the top guys of the 70s would beat 2 guys of the 50s like walcott, charles etc in the same night... Nah these guys maybe would lose but in hard fights 1 vs 1
This would be a very close and very good fight. Anyone saying that one of these guys would walk through the other isn't paying the losing fighter enough respect.
