Well i expect Walcott to give Holmes a harder fight than Cobb gave him, for a while anyways, but still have my money on holmes by knock out
On a good night Walcott was the spoiler, very knowlegable and fantastic counter puncher. He was erratic but could play chess with the best. He had a great right hand counter as well as the hook, he had tricky footwork and avoided the jab well. Pefect Joe Walcott would drop Holmes 2 times and win a close UD, he would see the opening and time it perfect. I dont think Holmes faced a boxer puncher as strong and crafty as Jersy Joe (Spinks not in JJWs class) This could be a series but I like Walcott here on one of his better nights.
Agree, but I'm not sure you can say M. Spinks not in JJW's class unless you meant Leon Spinks. And, I'd pick Holmes as the favorite, chiefly because Holmes is the bigger man. If Walcott was the bigger man, I'd pick him as the favorite.
Michaels Spinks in his first fight as a heavyweight beat an Older Holmes but it was not because of his size or strength but his craftiness. Walcott not only dropped a bull-like Marciano with a left hook but also had Joe Louis down 3x by right hands in 2 fights and & KO'd the great Ezzard Charles with a left hook uppercut. Joe Walcott had his bad fights and I could see a series with Holmes but on a good night I could see Walcott having fun, dropping Holmes and taking the nod. I just dont see anyone with experience other than a past it Norton and an almost dead Ali on the Holmes resume, Spinks may have been the most experienced quality but Holmes was his first heavyweight fight.
Holmes would controle the shorter smaller but very crafty Walcott with the jab. Not an easy night for Holmes as JJ with his shuffling sliding and lead right hands present problems but not enough to overcome Larry's controlling jab and rt hand. Larry in the end will come away with a UD
Charles also floored Walcott in their second fight. Walcott floored an old Louis 3 times ,quite a few fighters did ,keeping him down was the problem.
Probably. Maybe not close, but it would be interesting as far as watching them unload their respective bags of ring tricks, especially Walcott as Larry would be younger here.
I have a hard time placing Holmes over Lewis. And Wlad needs to be in this discussion, realistically.
