Holmes would win clearly. No surprise if he has to rise from the canvas to do so,though.

I think I have to change my opinion, those arguments are just too good.

No LHW could beat...........oh no wait. Still I think Holmes bosses the action with his jab from range and when they do mix it up maybe comes off better, late TKO win for Holmes imo

If Schmeling, who truthfully is disadvantaged in every physical stat...should connect with a big right hand counter, he would have decked Larry, and he would have never let Holmes off the hook..Schmeling was relentless and cruel with anyone he was able to hurt.....but....he would have to get to Larry with a big right hand counter.

Has larry holmes been turned into the kind of H2H supreme god all of a sudden that can't struggle with a top 20 HW?

By all rights, Holmes should have been able to beat the German..with all his physical advantages...and that jab...but if Shavers and Snipes could get to him with their right hands, then a more educated right counter ala Schmeling would have proven to be most perilous to Holmes. Schmeling was a sadist when he had a guy hurt..he never let them off the hook.

Schmelling would need more than 1 right to deck Larry, he'd need to counter the jab time and again, can't see it happening

I dont see Schmeling knocking Larry down or out, even with my prediction.

Holmes. And remember Schmeling needed about a 100 right hands to take out a green Louis. I don't see Holmes (or Louis) catching that many in his prime. And I do think Larry has a chance to stop Max.

Seamus broughy up a good point. It took Max 12 rounds and about 100 right hands to finally stop Louis. If Larry did get dropped he would get moving and not give Max another chance to land the right. Personally I don't think Max gets close enough to drop a prime Holmes. Too tall, too much reach and too fast not to mention a great jab to deal with. Holmes by stoppage late.

Stylisticaly Schmeling is absolutely awful for Holmes. He fed off all the atributes that would normaly be classed as Holmses strengths. If your fight plan is to try to control Schmeling using your jab then you are going to be in for a tough night.

My hunch is that this one would probably go to the cards, with the outcome being relativley close.
