Got to side with Holmes on this one, it would be one hell of a battle of the jabs but holmes to tricky and actually ring smarter.
On the basis of one top win at heavy Usyk is now being matched with top ten all time heavyweight champs, and in some cases coming out the winner?
You may have a point about Witherspoon. His problem wasn’t so much lack of skill but lack of motivation and at times poor conditioning. As for Williams he had a great jab, good right cross, and decent footwork. But his defense was shaky and was too often tagged by the left hook
Usyk easy money. Holmes wanted nothing to do w/ Young or Page. He got decked by dudes like Snipes, Sahvers and Weaver. His "win" over Witherspoon was a robbery. And Spinks was too unconventional for him. This is like those kids who drive suped up ricers pulling up to a M5 and trying to race. Not only do you lack the engine, you lack the handling! Holmes gets taken to school. There's levels to this sport.
Bwahahahahaha! You mean the dude who refused to fight Young and Weaver? Or the dude who went life and death with chinny KenNorton? Holmes spent his early career living in the shadows. Usyk doesn't have 20 pro-fights and he's already the GOAT at Cw, and Hw champion - winning against a guy who would've finished the job that Witherspoon only started, no less. Please, if you don't know Boxing, don't comment.
haha, you think Usyk will just stand flat footed with his chin exposed allowing Holmes to hit him? Usyk bewilders Holmes with footwork and volume. There's a ridiculous disparity in skill, and Holmes doesn't have to power to over-come that. He couldn't KO Norton and you expect him to hail mary the guy that backed up Joshua and clowned Gassiev? Holmes was out of BREF faster than Bizmarkee against bums, Usyk will drain him and then pour on the pain. Usyk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Spinks. Really, this is getting silly. You guys probably pick your dads to KO today's fighters. Can we try to have adult conversations? I respect Holmes and other old timers, but it's an insult to decency to suggest they have the skill to compete with someone like Usyk or Fury.
Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, good call. But Holmes had never met anyone with Usyk's footwork and pressure. He avoided Young and probably Page. That doesn't speak well to his chances here.
You reckon Tony Bellew, Michael Hunter and Mairis Briedis are better than Holmes too ? Because 2 of them was outboxing Usyk before they gassed and one won 5 rounds off Usyk. And we all know Holmes had an excellent gas tank. Fact is styles make fights. Joshua isn't that good. He got beat up by short fatso not to long ago. I'd reckon Cooney is better than Gassiev Usyk's southpaw stance will give Holmes issues but you have to study the sport more, to say there is a huge gulf in skill between Usyk in Holmes is crazy. They do different things better. Usyk is better at feinting, creating angles, more agile, better at slipping shots, etc. Holmes had a longer reach and this played into his style as he extended his lead hand alot to maintain distance, more effectively than Usyks probing jab. Holmes has the much better jab, the quicker hands, could set up shots better at range, the better movement when needed etc. There is a reason a fossil version of Larry Holmes schooled Ray Mercer, the same Ray Mercer that took Lewis to the trenches, KO'd Morrison and gave Holyfield a very competitive fight
