To me Patterson was a better overall fighter once he got rid of Cus D'Amato and began to "take chances". Assume Patterson does not have a "bad back" and comes to fight. Can Floyd beat Larry?
I already did a piece on Patterson's supposed "Bad Back" against Ali in '65... I liked Floyd Patterson but, he was clearly out-gunned against Ali... And I think his bad back was a sorta' "Plan-B" to escape from being counted out on his face or back at the time..... Patterson was a seasoned pro who was tricky.... As for Patterson's chances against a Larry Holmes, well, not very good...... Holmes basically takes off where Ali left off.... Holmes hits the smaller Patterson at will for the most part and hammers him into a late round defeat..... Patterson CAN'T beat Larry Holmes in a time machine........ MR.BILL
It was clear that Patterson couldn't get past Ali's jab. I think he would have the same problem against Holmes, and at a closer distance Holmes has that uppercut... Holmes by late stoppage.
I dont see any version of Patterson beating Holmes. Holmes jab just controled everything and as stated above I dont see Floyd getting past it.
I, basically, agree with what the others have said. Larry Holmes would beat Floyd Patterson, by decision or late stoppage...in my opinion.
Holmes would stop Patterson in the 14th.Larry would floor Floyd with a jab in the first, and takes abuse to him, Floyd winning, at most, two rounds.
holmes was susceptible to sneaky right hands in close, not leaping left hooks from a distance. ditto all the previous posts, holmes domination
Again, resident Floyd nut-hugger here. Too much size, weight, reach, and HOF jab for Floyd to have a chance. But, this could go the distance, given Floyd's stamina. Some late round rights might have Floyd ready to go but?.... Again, different decades, different body builds. Floyd could never beat Holmes but Patterson could give Larry a bit of a fit for awhile tho with no chance of winning.
