3. Sparring sessions do not count. Pro fights do. Holmes was floored in a professional fight to a below average professional heavyweight fighter. Did Kevin Isaacs make the ring magazines top 100 punchers of all time list?

Isaacs finished with a 29% ko percentage. 14-8 record. Not very good.

 

Mccvey thinks being knocked down by a flush Archie moore right hand and a flush jersey joe walcott left hook to the chin is "not good".

Holmes by easy decision. Too big, too mobile for the Cruiserweight.

 

No one in history under 230lb has an easy time with Marciano. He is Boxing's ultimate animal. Holmes would be in for the fight of his life.


202lb Cruiserweight Mike Weaver gave Holmes all he could handle plus more.

 

Marciano beat Big men but by the time he took the title from Walcott, the best and Champs and # 1 contenders had eliminated all the Big guys even at the top he KO'd 6"1 Rex Layne and 6'3 Joe Louis and 6"4 Johnny Skhor

Walcott beat 6'4 84inch reach Hein Ten Hoff, 6"5 Johnny Shkor KO1,

Charles beat, 6"3 Cesar Brion, 6'2 Billy Gilliam (who beat Valdes). 6"1 Rex Layne, 6"2.5 Coley Wallace, 6"2 Elmer Ray, and he KO'd 5"10 Bob Satterfield who KO3 6"3 Big Cat Williams and dominated 6'3 Valdes)

Marciano avoided no one and beat the winners, the very best of his times, he held the unified title and fought 5# 1 contenders while I can not say the same thing for Holmes, in fact I can think of 6 fighters he did not fight and 3 rematches he did not give in tough battles were many though he lost

Some try to infer that Marciano avoided Big men but the best men beat the bigger men of the era and Marciano fought the best. Marciano never had a problem with taller men so its weak to say so because as you can see the better men eliminated the Big guys in that ERA

 

I don't think being dropped by two men nearly 40 years old is great no. And I never mentioned Kevin Isaac , you brought him up to try and prove a pathetic point which failed miserably calling a NY Open Gloves Champion a" Beer Bum" is as stupid as most of your recent offerings.

Here we go again. Marciano NEVER beat a prime elite fighter over 6' and 200lbs.
Joe Louis was 6'1.5" tall according to himself.
Johnny Schkor was a second rater .
Who other fighters beat is absolutely irrelevant and immaterial. The issue is who Marciano beat END OF.

I've never suggested Marciano avoided anyone, I've just stated cold facts.
Anyone don't like them ,TOUGH because them's the breaks!

Again, where is the proof that a sub 190 pound, horrendously stumpy, slow handed fighter beats a modern 6-3, 215 ish or bigger heavy with 80+ inch reach of Holmes' elite status... or anywhere near Holmes' status? Where has that breed of heavyweight gone? I don't seen ANY of that type who have made a dent in the division for the past 40 years.

I have seen many, many, many fighters of that ilk on the receiving end of beatings by middling heavies who possessed modern dimensions. Granted, Marciano had heart but so did Arturo Gatti.

And I'll go one further, I think Marciano puts up a very good fight for half the rounds and has his moments. But I do think the preponderance of physical superiority and high level skill which Holmes' possesses ultimately draws the show to a close.

Oh come on now!

He isn't even that big.

He is about the same size as Joe Louis, and lets not forget that he lost his title to a guy who had been fighting around the super middleweight limit, a few months earlier.
