i never viewed Larry as unbeaten or unbeatable after that.

    Sort of like Castillo/Mayweather.

    Can't believe that was 1983 !

'83 in my eyes was the END of Larry's true prime........ By 1984, yes, he was fading.... Cheers.....

It was Friday night, May 20, the night Holmes and Spoon struggled together in Vegas.... My buddy from high school rolled his V.W. Bug on the 405 fwy in Costa Mesa, CA. that eve... The next day we had Saturday school cuz of ditching classes... His pops walked into class at about 10 bells in the a.m. fully pissed.... You could hear his voice down the hallway after he pulled my buddy outta class to raise hell...... WORD!

Yeah, but that's iffy............... Spoon did get his WBC title in March '84 with a decision over Page that was fair / just...... Too bad he choked against Thomas in Aug. '84 on HBO....

Pinklon Thomas was a much better fighter than Witherspoon.

That was a a great era for HW boxing.

I never liked Holmes as he always appeared to have a chip on his shoulder.

First, he was in Ali's shadow.

Later, he disrespected the deceased Marciano when Spinks prevented him catching the Rock's record.

I do rank him 5 or 6 alltime at HW though.

He'd get ****ed up by either K brother and fit right in with the second tier. Let's keep it real. He was a pretty good fighter, nothing more.

It's widely thought of as one of the WORST periods for HW boxing lol...

I interviewed Tim a couple of months back and he was terrific to speak with.

    AND

"Witherspoon sucked"??? This quote should just about sum up what you know about boxing. Virtually nothing!

Great Great fight, could have gone either way imo. I just felt Tim should focus more on puting the cherry on the cake by punching in that last few rounds more than dancing a'la ali like he was. Which was pretty impressive in its own right but not really effective.
