What I'm getting at... is that Holmes' era was pretty pathetic. In fact, many eras of this particular division have been sad. The post-Zaire era to Tyson was fairly godawful. The post Marciano era (some might argue the Marciano era itself with old ass bread line champions and ancient light heavies being the best) was **** poor. Louis had some good defenses but many more sad ones mixed in. Dempsey froze the title and refused to meet his two best challengers... how bad was that? And think of this... Tommy Burns and Marvin Hart, nuff said.
Holmes has toughness but Vlad controls until he lands the bomb and drops Larry enough times to make the referee want to end it.
they were all weak and inexperienced, it was a weak era and Larry navigated around the dangerous folk, amazing but today a lot of those who did not live the era rate him top 5 but you have to fight the best of your era and own the Championship ...even Weaver got his confidence after the Holes fight because he did very well but no rematch for Mike ( he was too tough) Sorry era
79/80 Holmes easily schools Klitschko, and exposes the farce that is heavyweight boxing in the 2000's! lol!
Of course it would because every time Vlad starts so shoot that pawing, oush jab of his. Holmes piston-like stick will have alreday beaten Vlad to the punch, and let me tell you. Holmes jab does big damage BECAUSE of it`s speed and heaviness... Speed won`t matter ??? Vlad`s LACK of it is a HUGE factor...
Not happening... The difference is that when Vlad gets hit by legendary bombers like Brewester and Sanders, he gets stopped !! Homes when facing feather-fisted Shavers gets up and comes back to stop him... Holmes has the balls, chin and resolve to win a war. Vlad ?? Please !!!
Citations only matter when you compare his power to the men in his era/common opponents. Also I don't think you can judge a fighter his power in the ring accurately. You probably don't feel the hardest shots at all, Julian Jackson on Graham I don't even know if he remembers the shot he got hit with, and if he did, he was KOd before he had the time to feel the shot. Second in the ring a fighter should be so focused he shouldn't have time to think about how much you think about getting hurt. Lewis says it nice [yt]Em0nmlzbv0c[/yt] 1:05 onwards.
Well for me Shavers failed the same way vs Cobb, Lyle,Mercado,Stander,Quarry,Holmes, and got stopped after having the other guy hurt, no doubt Earnie had power but we can not say he was a good finisher based on the KO of Ken Norton Holmes got stopped 3x by Bobick, dq but he was ready, 2x vs Nick Wells at his peak of the amateurs....He avoided about 10 rough fights in his era and navagated and protected by King (who bribed Ring magazine for ratings) Larry showed heart getting off the floor vs Shavers and Snipes but do those guys have the skill level of Vlad, I am afraid not....Larry's best fights were Cooney who never fought past 8 rds and Shavers who lost to many His best opponents were Spinks and Tyson who he lost to (past it true) but he lost.
I don't know who you are mate but Shavers was no bum, he could turn July into June and would send Wlad over the mother****ing moon. Holmesses jab will KO Wlad somewhere between the weigh in and post fight interview. Wlad would regret having ever picked up a pair of boxing gloves.
A bit off topic but Lennox really did eat himself into retirement. This is something people rarely talked about but prior to the Vitali fight my friends saw Lennox at Home Town Buffets (a chain store in Los Angeles) eating for hours on end and going through the lines again and again. Lewis did have food problems, just not as bad as Bowe's but it was there. He loved food and literally let himself go after Tyson. At one point Emmanuel was threatening to walk out on Lennox because 3 weeks before the 'Johnson/Vitali' fight.. Lewis was walking at 290 pounds. It was surreal he got himself down to a less fat 260 just in time for the Vitali fight. For a heavyweight to drop 30 pounds ... in 3 weeks is staggering.
