Larry Holmes vs Wladimir Klitschko...

The Carl Williams fight is not a fair argument. It was Holmes last victory as champion in 1985. He was clearly showing signs of decay even before that fight. Prime Holmes was 1978-82 or thereabouts. The best version of Larry would wreck Wlad.

 

Quite clearly neither have faced anything like the other, however stylistically Wlad does have a slight advantage. Holmes wasn't exactly spectacular going forward and if Wlad refuses to engage and sit on the back foot, his height and reach should give him the upper hand. Adding to bummy's point that Larry is clearly vulnerable to right hands, and consider the punching power Wlad holds then you've almost got to back him right?

Lyle got up vs Shaver to KO him, Bernardo Mercado got up to KO him,Tex Cobb got rocked and stopped Earnie, Quarry got shook and took him out in 1, 20-23-2 Bob Stalling did it and dropped Earnie in the last rd. Ron Stander got rocked by Shavers and KO'd him in 5, so it was a common thing with Earnie and as far as Snipes, he was dropped 2X by Coetzee but King favored decision got him the match with Holmes and it just goes to show how vulnerable Larry was to the right hand over the Jab but I saw Larry get stopped 3 times in the amateurs so I know this. Don't worry I was awake and watching fights when you were in diapers .....Holmes cant live with Vlad's right hand

 

So Holmes gets stopped? Even though the only man to ever stop him was prime , peak of his powers Tyson when Holmes was old and retired? A Tyson who has no similarities to Wlad whatsoever.

And Wlad could not stop , Haye, Povetkin, Sam Peter, Brewster, Sanders, Purrity, Williamson and barely managed to ko Eddie Chambers? He is going to somehow stop Holmes?


If I stand in a field and drop a hammer, i don't need to look down to know the hammer is there. You can argue that its not there , but logic assures me its there.

 

Vlad would use his jab and movement and wait for the opening to drop the hammer, it may not be a quick as Tyson but it would be at Vlads range and watch his hook as well

 

But Wlad can't move, jab and drop the hammer at the same time. He has to be planted. In the meantime while he his knocking at the door and pawing with his jab , he's going to be blinded by one of the best jabbers the sport has known before having his head snapped by one of the fastest right hand the division has known.

Wlad was completely obfuscated by Williamson's movement. He couldn't get any jab or right hand off on him and was floored on his ass trying too , so how can you say with a straight face he could do to Holmes what he utterly failed to do against Williamson?

For Wlad Fighting Larry would be like having two touch of sleep's there in front of him.

 

Williamson was KO'd in one rd by Joe Mesi and it was a headbutt that opened a cut but that was 21 fights ago and Vlad won that. Look at the right hand Holmes went down against vs Snipes and then look at the right hand that KO'd Byrd,Brock,Thompson,Rahman,Peter, and then look at some of the left hook KO's, Larry had a great jab but how does it match up against a jabber of Vlad quality IMO Larry is outgunned

 

So what does that make Wlad who was made to look like trash by Sleep? Not sure what the purpose of that point is but it does't work to Wlads favour.

This was after Wlad was knocked on his ass, looking desperate and gasping for air. That cut was nothing. Cuts happen in boxing. Corner men patch them up. That was nowhere near a fight ending cut and you know it. Look at Vitali's face when he fought on against Lewis. Manny had the fight ended because Wlad was on his way to a stoppage loss. Even Bernstein noted how tired Wlad was. Williamson was kicking Wlads ass, no two ways about it. If Sleep can do this , how can Larry not?

No, he was a 42 fight former world champion HW who had 6 straight defences of the title. Wlad is not some age-less super power who grows mightier by the year. You can't teach a new dog old tricks. Wlad is Wlad. He wanted no part of a Williamson rematch.

Spines was a very athletic, jittery type who cought Larry. So what? Larry got up and finished him within 3 rounds.
Steve Parnell (Who?) floored Wlad with a straight right. How could Wlad possibly live with Larry's long , blazing right?

Byrd saw the distance. He was ko'd only when he was shot to **** and he looked utterly useless in all his previous 4 fight. Half of which he deserved to lose.
Peter also saw the distance and had Wlad down on all fours 3 times. If Peter had a smidge of Larrys work-rate and stamina , he would of knocked Wlad out.

By a very basic jab and right hand?

Larry had supreme ring intelligence and movement. Enough to prevent Wlad getting off. Movement is Wlads worst enemy. Haye exposed his jab for what it is- a pawing range finder. Nowhere near the fast , snappy piston like weapon that Larry had. Haye made Wlad second guess himself to the point where he had to stay on the outside looking in. How does he knock out Holmes standing centre in the ring?
Homles lights him up every which way on the outside and if they meet on the inside , Holmes was just as formidable there. Unluckily for Wlad he would be a sitting duck , subject to vicious uppercuts and gas sucking body shots.
Wlad is underwhelmed in every aspect of the fight game against Holmes.

 

I never searched your post history. Anybody can look at your profile and see i was never there. I see you gloating everywhere i go around here.

 

Then perhaps u need corrective lenses for the past 40 yrs. Shavers shot on Holmes was perfect and by the end of the round Holmes was beating the hell out of him. Wlad does not hit as hard as Shavers. Christ I don't even think Wlad landed more than a handfull of right hands against Povetkin. He fought like he was scared to death. I'm done talking to u about this cause u just don't get it. Wlad doesn't belong in the same breath as Holmes. I'm Ukrainian so I'd love to jump on wlads bandwagon but no way in hell does he beat Holmes. I'm 49 so I was outta diapers by then. Bottom line Holmes finds the glass and shatters it.
