It's interesting that Ray Mercer beat Tommy Morrison prior to fighting Larry Holmes for the WBO belt. Supposedly he was stripped of the belt for fighting Holmes instead of Michael Moorer.
Personally I've felt that Mercer shouldn't have been stripped so quickly of the belt, when he fought Holmes and that along with his decision victory Holmes should have been awarded the WBO belt as well. He after all was a former WBC and IBF beltholder.
I know boxing is very political, was this a move because Holmes held title belts of the WBC and IBF, therefore the WBO refused Holmes challenging Mercer for their version of the heavyweight title. To me it seems very unfair.

Nobody really worried about it at the time because WBO was thought of as 4th in importance.
