Jesus, if you could hear cancer this is probably what it would sound like. They are consistently terrible and the other week was no different John Jackson beats the **** out of Andy Lee(who I was rooting for) for an entire round Sheridan "I can't split them in that one" Merchant "neither one deserved to win that round" Then the Maciel fight where Merchant seemed to think Melendez had it in the bag, giving him rounds that he was clearly losing, one in particular where Maciel trapped him in a corner and hammered him for the last minute, Merchant gives the round to Melendez then comes out with this little pearl "Melendez made some good adjustments in that round" it's actually embarrassing
Merchant(despite his age and part-time status with Boxnation) is very good, I enjoy hearing his comments. However, Sheridan has always been terrible.
He used to have his moments on HBO but he has been utterly dreadful the last few years, those moments I picked above are just a few snippets of their little performance the other night, at least Sheridan actually gave that particular round to Maciel, when Larry said "we will have to agree to disagree" I was actually stunned, Melendez' mother couldn't have given him that round It's plainly obvious that when they are talking, they are NOT watching the fight, literally
Sheridan is horrific-thank God here in the US he doesn't get air time,we get the "A" team.Merchant is superb and HBO deserve a good slap on the noggin for allowing a wimp like Kellerman replace this icon. To me,despite HBO getting rid of Kerry Davis, who allowed the evil Haymon into this world,Ken Hershman is doing a very mediocre job managing the HBO boxing department. How I long for the good old days when Lou DiBella called a lot of the HBO boxing programs. In fact,I wish Lou would get hired by Oscar at GBP ,despite his cozy relationship with the evil Haymon.
Did HBO get rid of Merchant or he retired?. I think he pretty much retired due to his age. Working for HBO isn't only attending events to commentate, he has other stuff that he works on there. With Boxnation he only attends events to commentate as a part-time job and takes off.
Who is the chick who commentates with them sometimes? she sounds hot, really have to feel sorry for her though stuck between those relics, shes hardly harry carpenter herself but sometimes she actually makes a decent point and Sheridan just over-rules her with some bull****
Merchant was basically forced out to make room for rat face Kellerman. It was supposed to happen a couple of years before it did but there was so much backlash HBO ended up keeping Merchant a few more years. He at least asked the tough questions unlike Kellerman who basically just nuthugs everyone he interviews.
Crystina Poncher - she's the top rank reported who talks to the fighters during fight week so they started shoe horning her in and she occassionally adds comments based on what they've told her. She is hot, also on NFL network. She's actually alright to follow on twitter. Her, Sheridan and Merchant work for Top Rank which gives their broadcast out as the International feed. Sheridan is god awful but I think Merchant still has something to offer in small doses
Colonel Bob is alright depending on whom they pair him up with. (he and Dave Bontempo or Raul Marquez always had a good balanced rapport) Merchant is terrible and has always been. HBO is much better off without him.
Merchant has always been a hack who only owes his job to knowing someone at the top of the networks. Otherwise, he has no qualifications to earn money to share his mediocre opinions on boxing. He is an old beady eyed drunken fool who gets the best seats in the house (beside Harold Lederman) and is a complete waste of space because he fails to appreciate even the basics of the sweet science.
Merchant is utterly horrible. They have the perfect replacement in Kellerman, he is just as ignorant...
Well, he was a sportswriter and did work boxing as his primary beat in print before he was a commentator - which some point to as him being more qualified than Kellerman - but in reality he was never all that great a writer despite winning some awards for it, maybe not a complete hack, just really overrated considering the actual quality of his work. In truth he never really knew any more about the sport than Max, and probably quite a bit less. Just an opinionated action junkie with a penchant for prolix and hating on anyone that doesn't get his booze addled blood pumping with a self destructive brawling style. Kellerman actually studies and loves the game - not just certain types or styles of fighters (though he does obviously have clear favorites) and had an enormous library of fight tapes long before he got his breaks in the biz.
