He was robbed! I love this clip how mad merchant looks as his hairs all ****ed up Say what you want about merchant he didn't constantly kiss the house fighters ass like lampley. I thought that helped balance the broadcast. Hearing max and Jim cheerleading together was tough to listen to
Did we ever find out more about that fan? What do you think caused him to come into the ring? What happened to him and where do you think he is now? There must be some kind of a story behind the fan and this whole scene. Larry was having none of this fan interrupting the interview. He just sprang into action, Larry did not hesitate in taking the fan out of the picture.
I don’t like Larry Merchant for 2 reasons: 1. I think he is condescending to boxers and looks down on them. 2. As shown by the video he is one of those guys because he is involved in boxing as a journalist thinks he is a tough guy. Remember him telling Floyd if he was 30 years younger he would kick his ass and Leonard Ellerbe telling him he won’t do ****. Not my cup it tea at all.
In a street fight Larry probably could have kicked Floyds ass if he was 30 years younger LOL Floyd cannot FIGHT!! He cannot get down in the trenches & FIGHT! he danced like a ballerina & relied on Vegas judges for his success
Lol. The problem is you actually believe it. It’s like all the fighters out there who get in there with Floyd thinking they are bigger, stronger, they hit harder etc but then it all unravels and there pre-conceived assumptions don’t work. You know what C.J. I reckon you could have Floyd in any type of fight “Mano a Mano” and you probably believe that to until we wake up from the dream.
I don't disagree with this statement, but since life isn't black and white, I will also say that he did great interviews sometime and said the truth without BS. Wish he didn't act like fighters had to kill each other for his entertainment though. I actually think that sometimes George Foreman was in the wrong when he tried to pull rank on him telling him he never boxed. I found it funny but the truth is, George would say some nonsense, and just because he boxed didn't mean it was right. By the same token, just because Merchant didn't box doesn't mean that what he said about boxing was wrong compared to George's take.
In my honest opinion I do believe Floyd could probably have achieved his success on his own & not sold his soul to the devil as the saying goes. He will suffer for it in years to come because even now people do not regard him as a great champion. Just look at poll results all over the world to be honest his legacy sucks. Canelo is same way today he knows he's protected while he fights in Vegas. The fans know it too but I guess both feel $$$$$$$$$$ is more important than a legacy
One jab from Mayweather would knock out or seriously hurt most 6ft+ 200lbs bodybuilders who have no fighting experience, he would absolutely annihilate Merchant. These guys are professional fighters.
I remember that incident like it was yesterday. I loved it. Totally hilarious. Say what you will about Larry Merchant, but, he is no poseur.
