If Goosen has half a brain he will keep Williams away from Pavlik until Paul can make some serious adjustments. As of right now I give PW the number two spot at 160. His win last night is far greater than anything AA has done at 160 over the last two years. Head to head it is easy to imagine Paul winning a wide UD over Arthur.

Stylistically Pavlik is a whole different story. He'd be all over Williams like white on rice. Think about Tommy Hearns' cornerman coming out to center ring, picking tommy up, and carrying him back at the end of the Haglar fight. It would be worse than that. Goosen already got Williams one stay of execution. I hope he has sense enough to do the right thing now.

maybe, yea. But the point is, when is the last time a guy has been gunning all over weight classes like this? And we're not talking the 4 or 5 lb differences we see in classes like 126-130-135. Big time weight moves.

If nothing else, it is a lot of fun and intriguing.

I hope this fight is made. Kelly's career would get a much needed and much deserved boost by beating the "most feared man in boxing". I would love to see if Paul could handle the power of a true middleweight like Kelly Pavlik. My guess is that it would be a tremendous fight with Paul Williams getting knocked out in 6.

Chris Byrd but yeah I got your point.

Point is Williams isn't a draw...and the fights that he needs to get to BECOME a draw he won't get because The Bob Father thinks he's a schmuck. Probably thinks the same about Goosen.

    He needs GBP and badly.

    i'm sorry...who has he beaten at 154 and 160?

For that matter, doesn't he have a loss against Carlos Quintana at 147?

    Wreaking havoc, indeed!!

He beat Verno Phillips who needed a Don King sized decision against Cory Stinks.

He beat Andy Kolle who was...well...Andy Kolle.

He just beat Winky Wright coming off 2 years worth of inactivity and injuries. THAT SAID Winky is still a solid opponent and shouldn't be a knock on Williams.

yea, you're right. He's bad for boxing. He sucks. He hurts the sport. He's only beaten Margarito, Winky, and avenged his only loss with a 1st round KO. Thanks for setting the record straight.:verysad

Arreola goes down first time he steps up to either Klitschko. His chin is questionable, he is overweight... he will fall.

I don't mind HBO hyping Arreola. Whatever his deficiencies, he's at least exciting to watch. It will be fun to watch him while he lasts. Paul Williams was hardly ignored, he won the main event, beating Winky Wright more decisively than anyone ever has, and getting credit for it by Wright (who in the past has always claimed victory in what were close losses or draws). If Merchant was more excited by Arreola, that's his goddamned perogative. He's been covering fights longer than most of us have been alive, and is at least entitled to his own opinions. Kellerman is alright, but can definitely be misguided in his criticisms and post fight quesitions of fighters and analysis. I hope HBO brings in Bernard Hopkins as an analyst in the future, to share the workload with or replace Kellerman.

    Agreed.

    I'm a Larry fan !

That had nothing to do with the question. That undercard had been dealt with and the discussion had moved to the fight just watched.

It was most definitely not more action-filled, unless your only measure of action is a KO.

    Nonsense !

Wlad put a far more brutal beating on a much younger and more motivated Jameel than the one who came out of retirement for a paycheque against Christobal, the one who could easily have beaten the count but didn't have the motivation to lift his ass of the canvas and earn his paycheque.

Very few serious followers of the sport would agree with you there.

No. He got his victory over a 39-year old retired journeyman who had never won a major fight in his life.

Knockouts make the world go round...pitty patting for 12 rounds doesn't. A good Ko is always exciting, and you know I'm right. The problem with Williams last night, was that every round looked IDENTICAL to every other round. This made it appear boring. I was bored. The Hw KO stole the show, its just the truth. I think a Williams/Pavlik fight would steal the show, so maybe HBO will make that fight happen soon.

it isn't a knock on williams...the Winkman is truly a tough fighter, but he did look like an older inactive version of Wright. I would like to see how Winky looks after this. It would say a lot a bout Paul Williams performance.

If paul would try to clean out a division like 154 and fight guys like Daniel Santos, Alfredo Angulo, James Kirkland, and Sergio Martinez I think he would get more recognition.

It sure was the more entertaining fight. Everything I posted was absolutely true...you're asking why larry decided to close the show with comments about Chris Arreola, and I told you...you choose not to believe it although it's the truth.

It took Wlad 10 rounds to dispose of Jameel...like I said no one had ever KO'd McCline like that.

Also, I'm sorry...I almost fell asleep during the middle rounds of the supposed "main event". It was a boring and one sided slap fest.

The Heavyweight fight definitely stole the show and obviously Larry agrees with me.
