Merchant said that right after the first point deduction. What ****ing fight was that lush watching?? HBO REALLY needs to revamp their staff and/or let them say what they want instead of forcing them to be their puppets
They've always been bent for the 'house' fighter. HBO invests millions in a fighter, they won't allow their announcers to say 'Khan is getting battered, Peterson is winning, Khan isn't as good as we told you.' Does annoy me that last night Lamont is landing beautiful punches, and Lampley is talking about some irrelevent bull****, then as soon as Khan lands ONE counter shot, he starts to scream AND KHAN LANDS A RIGHT HAND. *******.
Usually good refs. make it clear that its a warning and that the next will be a deduction. The ref did tell Khan to not push along with many other constant instructions and then suddenly took the point.
I personally love it when Larry is bloviating(very slowly of course) on some tangent and the action goes unaccounted. Most other commentators have the presence of mind to take a breath.
The Ref gave Khan 3 warnings before he took a point. he said "Stop pushing Khan last warning". I to dont know what HBO were watching. Khan shoves him with both arms out and they say "I dont think thats a foul". Umm yes it is.
The thing about the pushing, HBO mentioned that you usually get away with it. The trick you're taught (atleast we was) from the amatuers through to the Pro game is to push the other guy off using your lead sholder. Khan was too square. If he was in stance he could of pushed Peterson off with his sholder and been in position to punch. The sholder is your defence from the other guys head. A good example of this is the fights with Mallignagi and Diaz, Paulie uses his lead sholder to create space between him and the swarming Diaz all night long. Screw it I'm putting this in a thread.
I originally thought the deduction was unwarned and unwarranted... But after a rewatch, I see where he warned Khan about 5 times, including a final warning. I think the deduction was a bit harsh and draconian, but it wasn't completely unfounded. As for Merchant, he continues to be the worst analyst ever. He must have definitely been on the sauce last night... And he also must have been smokin on the cigaweed...
He was warned, the pushing was so blatant, he wasn't being discreet about the pushing at all. I'm surprised to read some articles this morning saying Khan was NOT warned. The one by fat Dan made me wonder what the hell he was watching. "On a pair of ticky-tack point deductions -- for which there had been no previous warnings -- Cooper changed the outcome of the all-action fight. He took a point from Khan in the seventh round for pushing and then deducted another in the 12th round for a questionable punch on the break." i watched the UK feed and they had MUCH better commentary than HBO has had. they kept talking about how peterson was the "boss" in there
Khan got warned countless times for his BS. Finally someone called him up for his constant fouling, old Cortez and his Brit refs do nothing. I'm surprised he wasn't headbutting again actually.
