Over at the scene in an interview with Mike Marley, Merchant says he thinks the Mayweather -Ortiz fight will be bigger in terms of PPV sales.

“I think it will outdo Pacquiao-Marquez in terms of the PPV numbers. I think you’ll see a huge HBO 24/7 buildup and that will be significant for Ortiz because he’s a fresh face and a vivid contrast in personality to Mayweather. He’s well spoken also.”

As for the third bout between Pacman and counterpuncher Juan Ma, Merchant certainly doesn’t begrudge the Mexican veteran the big payday.

“This is the first Manny opponent in some time who can say he’s fought him on even terms before. And I think it’s fair to say Juan Ma has earned this one. Question is, can he still fight as well being so much older and in a bigger division?”

    Thoughts?

    I think Mayweather-Ortiz outdoes Marquez-emmanuel, but Marquez-emmanuel outdoes Mayweather-Marquez. PPV wise

I think so too. Mexican independence day weekend, Mayweather fans/haters, 24/7, that all sums it up

What I love is let's say Floyd draws 1.5 and Manny draws 1.4 and people are like LOL MAYWEATHER MORE POPULAR **** Y'ALL HE DA BEST.

It's like... one point. And even so, who gives a ****? It's not a popularity contest. Manny has fought up to Middleweight and fought legit WW's and a JWW. Floyd has on his record.... Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah (better 140lber), Old Man Mosley, Hatton and Marquez. Yeah... fascinating.

I don't really want to side with Pac and be hating on Mayweather, but he's just so ****ing frustrating how he handles business and the **** he comes out with. It's all so boring. That said, well played with the Victor Ortiz fight but I just don't give a ****. With Pac/Marquez, there's interest, though we all know Marquez is out of his comfort zone and Manny can't really win this fight, he's gonna get critized no matter what.

All their fights are out the way, fight eachother or fight Martinez. Otherwise, nobody gives a ****, you're just picking out the seeds before they become trees. Arguably there's nothing at WW on the level of Pac/Mayweather elite wise, they've taken everyone out, and its now in a development phase much like the heavyweight division of current.

When one side is saying they have the biggest star in the sport, and the other side consistently does higher PPV numbers, it does matter.

People are talking world wide popularity and endorsements.. Of course Mayweather does better US payperview numbers he's American duh... But look at endorsements and just overall star appeal across the globe...

It's definitely gonna do big numbers... really just comes down to what kind of chance people believe Ortiz has.. Remember all of his high payperview numbers have come against opponents slated to have a legit chance of actually beating him... hence the public paying to see the villain beaten...i think Ortiz will be by far the biggest longshot, but who knows how 24/7 will play it.. Will they choose to leave out the Maidana and Peterson fights or be honest about them??

    i'll be paying

obviously it will do better numbers, Mayweather's the sports biggest star and he crushes Pac's PPV numbers time and time again, especially against common opponents. Mayweather a G and the face of boxing and it kills the *******s that this is true.
