Mayweather, an AMERICAN, and ORTIZ, a MEXICAN-AMERICAN. fighting in america with American PPV? It sure does beats any PPV coming from a foreign fighter like Pacquiao and Marquez. It just so happens that Pacquiao garners such high PPV bacause of his warrior-like attributes, good resume, and good marketing by his promoter.

My guess is 1 mill. I could also see it doing a few thousand more K than that, casuals tend to eat good promotions up, as evidenced in the Pac-Mosley fight. Only difference is Ortiz is a relative unknown and never been in a PPV before. I'm thinking most people buying this will be doing so to see Mayweather, and not necessarily a good fight.

I think it'll outdo the Pac-Marquez PPV, not necessarily because Floyd's the bigger star and does better automatically, but because he hasn't fought in about a year and a half (unlike pac who is a lot more active so seeing Floyd fight is a bit more 'special') and because the undercard is looking stacked.

i think it will outdo the Pac/JMM bout w/ two of the reasons being that the majority of boxing fans want to see how FMJ performs after a long lay off and Ortiz is not exactly a tomato can.

    Floyd v Ortiz = 1.4 - 1.3 Mil. PPV

    Pac v JMM = 1.1 - 900K PPV

Floyd is the cash cow and PPV King.

I really admired Larry because he predicted that Manny would knock out Oscar De La Hoya like I did. Maybe its Larrys bias towards his employer but that was really sad to hear.

It`s not impossible. Ortiz and Berto did really well and Canelo`s fight did 36 million views in Mexico.

What?! You are crazy man. ALL ROADS LEAD TO PACQUIAO.
Pacquaio has more roads. He's also making money off platinum records while Floyd is still trying to sell one record off his hood anthem 1to the 2 to the 3

That is what is called counting the chicks before the eggs are hatched.

    Who knows Ortiz?

Boxing demographics is now limited to certain races. Caucasians or whityes are very marginalized, and most PPV comes from latinos, asians and blacks.

Basing on american mainstream popularity, Mayweather>Pac>JMM>>>>>>Ortiz.

What happens when you combine two more popular fighters against a very popular fighter with a relatively obscure one? Only God knows.

Perse, without any opponents, Mayweather would probably outdo Pac by 100 thousand buys and it is understandable as this is American market. But how much would Ortiz contribute to that number? How about JMM?

Merketing would probably be equal or favors Pac because Gayweather's fight would be months ahead and under HBO which has a toatl market of 31 million households. Being months earlier, if it becomes very successful, then Showtime would have no option than to match or exceed HBO's marketing expenditure. And being a CBS company with a traget of more than 100 million households, the sky is actually the limit.

So the PPV would be very dependent on how the PPV marketing would do and who knows how it will turn out.

At most, the difference would probably not very significant and it would probably be at or around 100,000 buys. There is no way that the Gayweather - Ortiz fight would even exceed 1.5 million. This is not a Hoya fight. Optimistic projection would be 1.4 million and the downside would be at 1.1 million.
