Larry Merchant said, in the wake of Jean Pascal's (26-1, 16 KOs) upset win against "Bad" Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KOs) last night. With arguably the best super middleweight in the world Lucian Bute (26-0, 21 KOs) sitting ringside, it is only natural to consider pitting him against Pascal in an all-Canadian superfight at 175 pounds. Merchant echoed that sentiment, and went even further. He suggested that the just-vanquished Dawson fight the recently-victorious (over Glen Johnson) Tavoris Cloud (21-0, 18 KOs). And there you have it. A truncated version of Showtime Boxing's This content is protected super middleweight tournament, featuring the division's top four fighters. Making the match-making conceivably easier is the fact that they are all HBO fighters. I left out Bernard Hopkins for the time-being, since he appears more interested in fighting older peers.
nonsense Larry. Pascal should face Cloud then rematch Dawson before a mega-money, all Canadian non-title fight between Pascal-Bute. After that Bure should line up the winner of Super 6.
I'd rather see Bute stay down at 168 and face the guys in the super 6. Hopefully he will face the best person that gets eliminated first, either Dirrell or Froch. Assuming he wins, then the next best to get eliminated. Assuming he wins again, the winner of the tournament. In the meantime I'd like to see Pascal-Dawson 2 and Cloud facing one or both of them.
I'd like to see Cloud-Dawson. Cloud will have learnt a lot from his last 2 fights and be a stronger fighter from them. Didn't want to see him in with dawson before their last 2 fights but he did better than i thought he would in a very close fight vs johnson whilst it may be the beat time to face dawson after his loss. The winner to face pascal, i'd still favour dawson but it could be a ******* to watch
