Then you clearly aren't paying attention. Every time that old, condescending, sniveling ***git opens his mouth he has something negative to say about Floyd. His commentating sounds like an ESB post from one of the avid Floyd-bashers here. And some of us don't pay money to listen to that bull****. If you can't see how biased he is, then there's nothing I can really say to you about it. It's plain as day.
I suppose that question depends on who you ask. I support Merchant asking fighters why they aren't fighting the best opposition or putting on entertaining fights, whereas others will happily defend their favourites taking the easy route or being utterly boring. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Merchant does his job, I don't think. He's a brilliant asset to boxing.
You can compare it with the way he behaved right after, in his interview with Ortiz. It is night and day, really.
Addie, there are probably a dozen or so and you know it. Accurate observations are simply an opinion, mostly held by people who love a certain rival. Listen to what other boxers say.
You are definitely entitled to your own opinion. But you shouldn't blame Floyd or some of the fans of the boxers Merchant hates if they dislike him. It's that simple. I guess I'm pro-athlete, regardless of who it is. I don't particularly like to see commentators "going off" on guys who are busting their asses to perform, whether you like the performance or not. Some people seem to get off on that ****, for whatever reason, but not me... Especially when he doe it to only certain fighters.
Well, I gave you one and you said it was an accurate observation. If you feel that "Mayweather ducks and dodges opponents as well as he does punches" is a fair and astute analysis by a commentator on the network that is showing his fights, then, as NBA said, there is nothing to discuss with you on this.
Honestly? Not trying to be a dick, but I think you're just playing dumb. Or maybe you realize that I just can't be arsed to look up Floyd/merchant videos. You can do it if you really want to know.
Larry is full of ****. This man has been hating on Mayweather since he fought Genaro Hernandez. No ****ing joke. I'll never forget it: "Yea, Mayweather looks great, but I don't think he'll be popular with that style of fighting." And if you HAVEN'T seen that fight with Hernandez, you should. Mayweather was nothing short of spectacular, especially for a guy in only like his 18th or 19th professional fight. Merchant made his opinion known SINCE DAY ONE. He doesn't agree with the "style" in which Mayweather fights. And I think he is a closet racist.
Problem is, people want commentators to act like ESB posters and say "what's on their mind" even if it's biased as ****. The people on the other side of that bias don't appreciate it, especially if he's always going after the same people.
How hard is it, really? Show me some evidence of Larry Merchant "going off" on Floyd Mayweather. Don't show me the Baldomir post fight interview where he says, in a calm manner, the following... "You often talk about Boxing as Entertainment. You've come to the ring dressed as a Gladiator. But...do you think this was particuarly entertaining? People were leaving all around the arena, and since you brought it up, I want your response?" Is that what you mean by Larry Merchant going off on Floyd Mayweather? Asking him whether or not he thought the fight was entertaining. Keep in mind, the fight was balls. People were leaving. The Booing were deafening.
The fight which immediately comes to mind is Mayweather/Baldomir. That was on PPV and even though it was a mismatch from start to beginning, Mayweather did nothing to make it interesting. Instead of being a leopard playing with a baboon, it was like a cat playing with a mouse. It was dull. I know the obvious answer is "it's a dangerous and risky sport" and it is, without question, but Mayweather could have fought southpaw with his left hand tied behind his back and still won. Could he have made it interesting? Yes. Did he choose to? No. Does that make good entertainment? No. Therefore, I feel like it's Merchant's job to criticise him.
wtf? Larry was simply trying to get him to actually ANSWER the damn question rather than avoid it like the coward floyd is. He went gangstar because he was being exposed. You gotta be ******ed not to understand this.
