These arguments, like the Jones one, started from talented guys happily picking up big cheques to fight overmatched opponents. Every fan around the world should be against that type of mentality and when Merchant brings it up, every fan should praise him for asking these elite fighters why they aren't fighting the best. If people like Jones, Mayweather and Hopkins are going to fight average fighters and milk the fans, then they deserve criticism for that. They should be man enough to defend their actions rather than crying about bias and throwing the "you've never boxed" line at him.
First off, Whitaker was never much of a trash talker. That didn't stop Merchant from denigrating him. Second, if you're going to tell me that this guy is letting his personal feelings effect his ability to commentate on them objectively, then that's not a good look for Merchant.
Check out this video around the 1:10 Mark [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD2ueosgdsw[/ame] Just listen to what he says about Ortiz. You have to ask yourself how he could say something like that about Ortiz and then insinuate that Mayweather cherry picked him during the HBO broadcast of the fight.
Mayweather should have been professional enough to let the man ask the questions that the fans might have wanted to know the answer to, he got out of there before the Pacquiao questions started more than likely (before any of you start talking ****, I have said for ages that Floyd AND Pac are avoiding each other, its not 1 way) He did the same to Kellerman when Kellerman asked about JMM as the selection of opponent, he`s an insecure, egotistical ***** that thinks he`s god, fight Pac & I will give him all the praise in the world, don`t & you will deservedly be called a fraud. Same goes for that other little wanker thats hiding behind arum, enough pish please, get it done !
I didn't watch the HBO broadcast but if you'd like to give me some direct quotes, I'd be glad to read them. You mention "insinuations" - are they your insinuations of what Merchant means and that he's subtly looking to have a dig at Mayweather, or are they Merchant's insinuations and he genuinely is having a go at Mayweather?
I don't remember exactly what he said. It was something to the effect that if Mayweather is fighting Ortiz, that means that Ortiz is not that good.
Larry is the man. Mayweather was upset because the fans started booing him and because the inevitable Pacman question was coming. **** all you *****s who think Larry is always dissing him because he's truly not.
Can't speak on England, but in this country, saying you'd 'kick someone's ass' would be classified as 'swearing'.
And HBO should be professional enough to not subject its viewers to post fight interviews full of contention and combativeness by sending up an interviewer who has negative history with multiple fighters. HBO should be professional enough to not allow non-combatants (Mosley) to commandeer their interviews to confront other fighters (Mayweather). There are a couple of things that need to be ironed out with HBO's post fight interviews.
Floyd should have realized that Larry was just being Larry, but instead, he decided to once again show how childish and insecure he is by throwing a tantrum...I really wish Floyd was as mature mentally as he is in the ring. He is easilly one of the most childish fighters - one of the most childish grown men, even - that I have ever seen.
This ones easy. Floyd got pissed because he was getting asked uncomfortable questions regarding his dishonorable victory. Not a comfortable topic so he he tried to avoid the questions. When he got caught avoiding the questions, and was re-asked, he went on the defensive... and the best defense is offense. Open shut case. Merchant was well within his boundries during that interview. He asked exactly the question that everybody wanted him to ask, and didn't allow Floyd to change the subject. If anything Merchant deserves credit for it.
In the Mosley fight, Merchant said that Floyd was faking hurt, that the fight wasnt nothing but a good sparring sesson, that Money was acting like he wanted to fight ( insinuating that he really didnt ), that Money scouted Mosley scouted Mosley as an easy fight when in fact Mosley called him out on national TV and got his ass whooped for his troubles. The fact is, Merchant has always downplayed Money and when he came in for the Ortiz interview you knew by look on Moneys face that he was he was saying to himself, here comes some more bull****. He tried to play it off by changing the subject but Merchant wanted to grind on him and you know as well as Ortiz that Money dont take no **** from nobody. He did what he do. WENT THE **** OFF!!! He dosnt bow down to Merchant and Larry just cant handle it. **** that old dipstick.:bbb:bbb:bbb
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrwk2_D0gBc[/ame] Floyd is an ******* and very insecure. But Larry can be very irritating, especially nowadays. He didn't forced Ortiz the way he forced Floyd to answered his questions.
