You guys are lucky to have a commentator who's asking hard fans questions. Merchant's jobs has to be done Imo. Afterfight interview are pointless if it's just to please the winner. Imo again, Merchant doing this means that HBO cares more about the fans than the boxer's egos. And it's the way it should be, the fans pay for pro fights, so the boxer has to deal with the critics for what they said or they way they fought.
fantastic post general zod, that interview said so much about hopkins. merchant pwnd hopkins infront of a global audience of millions :deal this was the magnificent hakkar fight where hopkins earnt $700'000 instead of bringing calzaghe to america and earning a career high pay day of $3m :-( this interview gave a great insight into the mind of hopkins at that stage of his career. hopkins was far more interested in fighting much smaller fighters like de la hoya, trinidad, mosley, and wright, than he was in taking on a real challenge and taking on calzaghe at super mid in america for the biggest pay day of his career :dead but then again, this is the real problem with boxing in america, the boxing fans are that ignorant and narrow minded about anything that doesn't happen in their own country that they probably wanted hopkins to fight the legendary robert allen for a 4th time instead of taking on prime calzaghe :rofl
I knew there would be some losers on this thread playing the race card and i wasnt wrong. Like it or not Larry tells it like it is and asks the tough questions others dont ask, in this case he met his match with Bernard a guy who's never at a loss for words and if you notice they seem to be enjoying that.
Don't be an *******. Nobody in America was happy with those fights. It is true, though, that Americans generally didn't know who Calzaghe was at that time.
yeah the race card was pretty **** for me to pull out.. But still, i find it annoying how Merchant is so damn opinionated when hes never boxed before. My view is purely personal, i tend to favour the mindset of fighters than the guys in suits with microphones Saying "he calls it like it is" is ovverated, i could do the same if i was in his position, but i wouldnt plain out disrespect them because i can.
Bernard Hopkins refers to Larry Merchant by his Surname, MERCHANT! For me, he's won the battle right there! "Hey Merchant" Lol
what do you know about Larry? apart from what the media feeds you? Dont be so quick to judge characters based on interviews
i took my comment back previously. I saw where i went wrong before you posted this. Therefore you havent put me down!
thats the way politicians are asked questions we pay the boxers salary too but we have no ****ing say in things at all unless people like larry ask these sort of questions and confront these overpaid cherrypicking assholes
so what, Larry had a couple of Jacky Ds and had the courage to ask some questions that Hopkins didn't like. Still made for an interesting interview, other than that usal ass-licking...
