ive always thaught that larry merchant was a senile old man who has his job and gets paid out of pitty

Larry Merchant hates defensive boxers. He's not a racist. He loves Mosley for example.


Watch Hopkins fight with Tarver. Merchant starts talking **** in the 2nd round about how "boring" the fight is, then Hopkins starts kicking Tarvers ass. Merchant is just extremely biased.

 

That would have been a smart move. That's probably why you work in a factory

 

He marked his authority over the smaller De La Hoya, but Sturm is a bigger fighter who has a great jab and boxing skills and now has a fine resume, with several defences, even owning a win over Sylvester the current IBF MW champ. Hopkins struggled with fighters his own size who are fast two handed fighters, and if Taylor could beat Hopkins, theres little reason to doubt the better MW Sturm

 

It seems many people on this excellent post cant handle the truth, that Hopkins was calling out WWs and LMWs when he was MW champ, building a record fighting big name smaller fighters, whilst avoiding a rematch with Jones and pricing himself out of a fight with Calzaghe .

Hopkins has fooled many of the American public and fight fans along with The Ring magazine that seemed almost dedicated to him at one stage, whilst he feasted on smaller fighters.
Even now during his time at LHW, that after beating Tarver he fought smaller fighters in Wright, Calzaghe, Pavlik & Orneleas. Jones was the first fight after Tarver where Hopkins fought another LHW other than his debut. :-(

Infact screw Hagler for doing the same thing, he should be ashamed for fighting smaller guys like Hearns, Leonard and don't even start me on him fighting a former light weight in Duran. atsch

 

I think Lennox Lewis punked Merchant out after the Vitali fight...I liked how he snated the mic from Merchant and proceed to do his thing...The look he gave Merchant was priceless.>>>

Yeah he marked his authority over HOF guys like DLH and Trinidad, smaller yes, but let me tell you something bailey.

Those fights were famous and drew alot of attention. Trinidad looked great at 160
DLH beat sturm (though unconvincingly) and probably would of beaten plenty of other MWs during that time.
If Hopkins struggled against bigger guys then explain tarver and pavlik...
Taylor never really BEAT hopkins
nor did calzaghe
and both were fast two handed fighters

And its fashionable to hate on ATG fighters to try and prove that you know more about boxing than others.

 

Merchant has a personal feud with the best fighters.

Hop telling it like it is. I thought Jim Gray was nasty for calling out Pete Rose years ago, but Merchant is a biased, sometimes incoherent douchebag who truly knows very little about boxing. We could go on and on about how he sucks, but the worst part of Merchant is his lack of respect for anyone who doesn't fight in a crowd pleasing way.
