I agree. I'm all for him calling out guys for facing bulls*** fights like the RJJ video a couple threads down, but when he makes his mind up before a fight or downplays a dude for easily beating the tar out of someone using a "boring" technical style, it really makes you wonder.

sometimes merchant is on the money then other times it just appears he is disrespectful and often has an agenda


you can ask a question without being a ***** or you can be like Merchant and ask confrontational types of questions.......Merchant usualy goes the confrontational route thats why i dislike the guy.

 

I'm not offended at all by some dumbass on the internet. I'm more upset that you think *****'s are somehow in the wrong for not liking Bob Arum or Oscar?? First, they are entitled to their opinions, and second, it doesn't take an ethics professor to know both those guys are slime.

 

Doesn't all HBO have to do is say no we don't want this fight? Sides Floyd, I don't think there are too many fighters who call their own fights

Exactly that. Merchant as a boxing fan saw that Hopkins was conning the fans by constantly fighting the Hakkars and Allens, whilst avoiding the top fighters who were his own size.
Just imagine how badly Hopkins would have been beaten if he was fighting a prime Calzaghe, Ottke, Michalczewski, Erdei

 

He would have won wide decisions against ever single one of them.


Calzaghe was fighting bums at the time. Ottke was getting gifts agaisnt bums the whole time. Erdie doesnt deserved to be mentioned in the same sentence as Hopkins and Michalzewski lost to Julio Cesar Gonzalez.

Yup, and if any of them had been put in front of Larry at that time then they'd have been asked the same questions as Roy was.

The only problem we have is that ESB is filled with a lot of fan boys who won't accept any negativity towards their favorite fighters at all. Merchant, instead of reiterating what a marvel Hopkins obviously was at that time, simply called him out on the quality of the opponent. Hakkar didn't deserve to be sharing a ring with Hopkins, and a top 3 P4P fighter who was the undisputed champion at 160lbs shouldn't have been calling out all Junior Middleweights. I thought that goes without saying.

 

Nothing wrong with the Tito victory. Trinidad moved up and showed against Joppy that he was still an absolute destroyer. Hopkins took him apart.
