I love how some of these professional fighters can handle the pressure of putting their lifes on the line everytime they step in the ring and seem to handle that well but then they get rattled and go mental when an old man asks them a question.
Tell me how he disrespected Jones here? Was the fight "junk"? Yes! Did the world want to see Jones fight better opposition? Yes! Did Merchant give Jones a chance to defend himself at every opportunity? Yes! End of interview. Thanks Merchant.
Attacking RJJ for fighting a mando. It's not Jones' fault they wanted him to face that guy or be stripped.
I wouldnt call saying that Roy his bigger than those titles and big enough that he could fight whoever he wants attacking him but hey thats just me.
Maybe some of the viewers wanted to know why the fight was such a non event? Maybe Merchant was wondering why Jones didn't just forget about his belts? Do they define him? I know Barrera was never concerned with holding world title belts. "The people know".
Its the reason I respect guys like Johnson, Dawson and Tarver for vacating belts to fight the best guys out there, instead of mando stiffs
Good point. Off the top of my head,IBF,WBA,WBC,WBO,IBO, then we have all the interm belts and superbelts, lol
Barrera refused the WBC belt immediately after winning it from Morales in 2002. He was introduced as the People's champion after that. He also didn't bother with the Vacant IBO belt he should have won for beating Hamed. Nor the IBF title he won from Peden.
The 'he didn't want to get stripped of his belt' argument isn't very good, seeeing as Roy had more belts than most championship fighter's win in their entire careers. He was hoarding belts.
yep, sad thing is now jones is trying everything to get back in the spotlight when he misused while in it
