It always seems Larry doesnt like the boxers much like RJJ,Floyd,Lennox,Bernard Hopkins etc and prefers the toe to toe fighters so iv always been baffled by his admiration for Pernell Whitaker i mean Whitaker was a master boxer and the complete opposite of toe to toe.
It has to do with Whitaker fighting everyone. Also Whitaker was a defensive fighter that didn't really run. He often stood in front of you then moved to make you look stupid. He didn't bounce all around the ring in fear.
Time for Larry Merchant to go. Im in the minority here who looks forward to seeing Kellerman in the third spot on a permanent basis.
Kellerman is a ****ing blowhard. His tone of voice and inflection is jarring and he has no business on my HBO Championship Boxing. Boxing after dark, fine, but he doesn't have the swagger of a WCB analyst, and never will. You can argue that you like his insight all you want, but when you are a BROADCASTER, tone of voice and presentation are pretty much the most important things. Lampley has it in spades and Bob Papa does a great job. Merchant has been a lot better since last May or so and even when he has an off night, he is still interesting. Kellermans insight has no weight, whatsoever. ESPN can have him back...at least then I'm not paying for premium cable to have his annoying ass demeanor shoved down my throat.
Merchant likes action. he doesn't care if the fighter is a defensive master or an all out slugger, as long as there's action.
Yea you're definitely in the minority. Kellerman's voice goes straight to my spine like fingernails on a chalkboard. :wall
I have to agree. Kellerman looks like a guy who can't get over himself that he's finally broadcasting on the prestigious HBO's World Championship Boxing. That smug knowing face he makes when he's waiting for his turn at the mic. That self-important air and self-conscious "look how clever I am" delivery...the dude makes me cringe. Max, it's not about you -- we tune in to watch THE FIGHT. Edit your sh*t down, for chrissakes. You know who would be a good replacement? Believe it or not, Joe Mesi. He's articulate, knowledgable and likable. Anytime I've heard him provide analysis I've always come away impressed. At least he wouldn't make you press the mute button like a lot of us do when Max chimes in.
