Larry Merchants distaste for Boxers

Larry used to be a big Hopkins fan b/c of the Philly connection, but then there was the whole Hakkar debacle and a heated argument where Larry stood up for Steward when Hopkins implied that Manny was an Uncle Tom.

Larry has taken cheap shots at Mayweather in the past, but is usually respectful of his inside-the-ring abilities.

When Steward was criticizing Floyd's performance against Baldomir, Merchant said "there's no room for perfection". His interview wasn't that harsh either, Floyd just overreacted, probably frustrated from the booing and the things Larry has said in the past.

 

Merchant is a good commentator, he always cracks me up with what he says. I hate that Bart Simpson look a like, Kellerman. He seems to have a hard on everytime he talks to a black boxer, I wish he would just go away and never be behind a mic again.

 

YOu're not in the minority here, I like Kellerman because he gives all boxers the respect they deserve during interview. He won't allow his favorite guys to have what seems to be unlimited mic time while the fighter he's not to crazy about he snatches the mic away not allowing them to finish sentences. Both Kellerman and Merchant ask question that I believe fans want to know and Merchant is funnier at times, but his disrespect for certain fighter can't go unignored in my view . Kellerman all the way.

 

If Max Kellerman and Larry Merchant both say the same thing, I'll probably criticize Max for it while I can take it from Merchant -- it's his age and his standing in boxing.

I'm interested in what Larry has to say, cornball one-liners that may or may not make sense and all. Kellerman...is slowly, slooowly growing on me. I'll get used to him fine, but I'd like Larry to be there for as long and as often as he can.

 

Related to comparing the two - it's not that I dislike Kellerman. I don't. But Merchant fulfilled a role for me that Kellerman doesn't fit into. There's a place for him in boxing, but it shouldn't be at Larry's expense.

 

Merchant likes boxers. He hates boring matches. Too many of these snobs in the boxing community think boring matches where two guys peck away at each other and won't sit down on a punch for fear of getting hit is "real boxing" and anyone who disagrees isn't a "real boxing fan". For example the people who were sucking Cory Spinks' ass after the Taylor fight

I'm like Larry.

I love watching Pea, RJJ, Toney but hate watching PBF.
I enjoy Wright's fights but hate Bhop's.
I like Pep style but dislike PBF's.

 

Old man Larry is like me he likes Fighters that come to fight Mickey Ward style, guy's that arn't afraid to get hit or get hurt, and can't stand guy's that run and pitty-pat like Corey Spinks that **** is as boring as watching grass grow, real men fight not run like sissies:yep

I hope HBO keeps the old man.:good
