Some bouts after that were fought with skin tight 2 oz leather gloves eg Corbett Choynski. You could call these bare knuckle bouts for all practical purpouses.
Didn't skin tight leather gloves actually makes fights more dangerous then bareknuckle bouts? I heard skin tight gloves could cut skin much easier.
Jeffries' glove came off against Sharkey in their title fight, and Jeff punched him bare-fisted, if that is what you mean.
Correct! I thought Janitor,or our own self appointed " archivist" would have snaffled this one up easily, perhaps its not in the archivists "clippings"
Any glove allows you to hit harder. At the time of Sullivan if a man was wearing gloves it was a boxing exhaibition....some cop stopped some fight because it turned into a slugging match with gloves......in most places Boxing...especially bare knuckle was illegal.
Isn't it the other way around? Gloves means more padding and decreased power. At least so I thought.:bbb
Tiny gloves give you extra padding on your knuckles, allowing you to hit harder. As you increase the size of the glove, at a certain point it starts to cause less and less damage.
