You can't be a fan of boxing and not enjoy some of the skills he displayed. They were sublime. Even if they were being demonstrated against a severely overmatched opponent.
So only HOF caliber fighters could put on that sort of performance. So what's wrong with a guy putting on a HOF caliber performance?
This is nothing but snobbery - you can appreciate his skills but it doesn't mean the fight itself is exciting. I like watching Floyd fight from a technical point of view - I don't rate his fights as a sporting spectacle though, as pure entertainment it isn't which is why I won't pay for them but like analsying them after the event and appreciate it on that level. The greatest sporting events have excitement, drama, action - if you watch tennis and see some powerhouse serve and volley with no rallies then it's boring to watch, I can appreciate the power and accuracy of the guy's serve which the opponent couldn't live with, but it doesn't stop the match from being forgettable as a spectacle The snobbery with the defensive side of boxing is just posturing, it's one style, not THE style - why is it a guy who hits and runs is considered technical, but a guy who can punch and throw combinations at will yet risk getting hit is for casuals when they are 2 distinct styles, each requiring skill. It just happens that offensive makes for more excitement, it's a fact
U serious...? maybe the fact that he's not just a hof but an atg talent? Why waste his time (and ours) on the likes of guerrero, real greats test their mettle at the limit
Why do people make **** up? Pernell and Floyd's attack have similarities. Pea didn't throw any significant amount more of combinations than Floyd does when fighting at the championship level. If there is a difference, it is an insignificant amount. Acting like Pea threw 3-4-5 punch combinations regularly is just ridiculous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XBjpmo5GZc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLs0RPo3L7E That's sticking, moving, and dropping the left. I don't see combinations all the time. I see boxing..... That's the problem, you're actually talking to somebody who grew up watching Pea.
Ok, so who should he fight? Guerrero was a top 15-20 p4p fighter and a multi division champ. He was also the mando. Clearly that's not good enough. So you tell me who is good enough. What fights wouldn't be a waste of time in your opinion?
like i said, technicly, floyd is a genius, but still he bores me. even rigo vs donaire was punching at least some 1+2 combos. 1 punch at a time like floyd does, i mean its no cool now and than, but please, mix it up, do some combos, some left hook right uppercut ****, make the fight a bit entertaining. god, manny used to make 4-8 punch combination, all out action, thats enteratining. i mean you can fight technicly, yet put up some combos and fight a bit offensive at times, without risking to much. floyd doesnt wanna risk nothing and thats how boring his fights are, because he is defensive from 1 to 12, with some small exceptions with his 1 punch attitude. sorry, masterful boxer, but boring. even puts up some combos.
Alvarez. followed by Bradley - Marquez winner (unlikely) i gave him props for the cotto fight it was good
So fighting Marquez would not be a waste of time despite the fact that he already beat Marquez worse than he beat Guerrero? I personally think that fight would be a huge waste of time. A Bradley fight though would be intriguing if Bradley can win decisively against Marquez.
Marquez knows how to fight and has the athleticism to back it up this time regardless of the age argument; Marquez coming off a Pac AND a Bradley win is way better than a Guerrero coming off a BERTO win. Bradley is also intriguing for obvious reasons but I'm not sure how much he was damaged in the provo fight. First and foremost is Alvarez though. its become the publicly demanded fight
Not when you factor in that Mayweather already dismantled Marquez. I'm not sure why anyone would be impressed with Mayweather beating Marquez again. We already know Marquez has nothing outside of a puncher's chance in that fight. Anyway, Mayweather claims he will fight 5 more times. He can't fight Alvarez all 5 times. As long as he's fighting quality, highly ranked opponents, I have no issue.
itll depend on whos on the rise so really we don't know who that'll be when the time comes since he fights so seldomly
