The last time there was a mega fight in the Uk where people were so adamant that our boxer was going to get "Knocked Out" and was given no chance by fans and the bookies was when a certain Nigel Benn was supposed to be "killed" by the hardest P4P puncher of the time Gerald McClellan. The odds on Benn were so big and the experts did not give him a chance. We all know the tragic outcome of that night but people are giving Brook less chance than Benn had all them years ago. Gerald McClellan was a beast but it shows anything can happen, especially with your crowd behind you.
I was there that night :yep best fight or sporting event I've been to, absolutely amazing atmosphere. I see were you're coming from in terms of upsets on UK soil but Benn was a huge puncher himself and was a super middleweight for a long time before he fought McClellan, it was McClellans first fight at SMW. McClellan was the one coming up in weight and it ended in tragedy, Brook is the one coming up two weights, is not regarded as a monster puncher but is going in against one.
Froch vs Bute Froch was coming off a disheartening loss to Ward and thought he was done. Bute was a body punching wrecking machine and had all the right moves. Not many ppl expected Froch to survive Bute's L UC, much less blitzkreig him back to Canada. :think
Froch V Bute in the UK was seen as a genuine 50/50 fight. Benn and now Kell were/are given no chance especially by the bookmakers. Froch V Bute was special tho but not quite as exciting as this by Froch because he needed the knockout- [yt]8Fpq1-8G3_8[/yt]
Benn got all kinds of home cooking in that fight... lol should have been stopped in the 1st rd. Ref screwed G-Man
Yea it was kind of technical, if Benn had rolled over and fell off the hood he would of had a 20 second count but to be honest I think part of the reason he struggled to get up was because he was in the ropes so I don't hold to much thought to it. The only reason it gets brought up is because of the tragic events afterwards. nobody can foresee what happened and at the time it was Benn's health people were worried about.
Damn lucky man, even watching videos of the fight you can tell that place was rocking, totally electrifying. To be there must of been insane
Bit off topic but anyone who hasn't read "War Baby" about the Benn McClellan fight should do. Back on topic: S**** Iron Ryan vs Micky Ward
And they forgot to mention that Benn and McClellan were both MW's. If brook was a MW I'd favor GGG, but it wouldn't predict a blow out. It would be competitive.
