Not everything. Chavez was more consistent, more relentless, and more composed. Duran was the better athlete and has the prettier resume, no doubt, but Chavez was one of the best fighting machines the sport has ever seen and this fact was aided in no small part by his mentality and his intangibles. Prime Chavez was never discouraged like Duran was against De Jesus in the first fight, nor did he really ever lose his composure like Duran did against Buchanan late. Chavez was endlessly persistent and knew how to stay calm.

I’m leaning towards Armstrong but any one of these guys has a chance of winning this tournament

I picked these four for obvious reasons, the come forward aggressive style and all fought around 135-140 lbs at their peak.

Is there any footage of Armstrong opponents just jabbing and moving laterally? Seems all his opponents got sucked into exchanges with him. He was hittable so they took their chance, maybe they was daunted by having to jab and move for 15 rounds too.. Armstrong put a load of weight on his front foot, would have been fascinating to see if someone like Floyd could keep him off balanced and move the full distance.

Gotta agree that in overall terms JCC was more consistent and reliable than Duran, who had several well known ups and downs.

But in a H2H sense, assuming both fighters bring their A game into the ring, Duran has the upper hand.

Of course if Duran has a night off like he did versus SRL II, all bets are off. Chavez, and a lot of other lesser fighters would beat that poor version of Duran.

It's easy to be consistent when you're consistently fighting a lower level of opposition.

Duran comes out on top in my opinion and if we’re taking about the fighters weighing somewhere between 135-140.

I’d pick Armstrong to be runner up overall and giving a great account of himself in an excellent battle with Duran - maybe the top two infighters of all time.

Which of these matchups would you most want to watch though?

Performance wise, Duran in and around lightweight in the 1970s was pretty much a metronome of consistency. Duran’s later career inconsistencies wouldn’t be a factor around this weight so it doesn’t really make sense to bring it up as a factor in this hypothetical.

Chavez-Pryor at 140 would have been a great, great fight.

I haven't seen alot of Armstrong but my guess would be....

    1. Duran
    2. Armstrong
    3. Chavez
    4. Pryor

Pryor doesn't belong in this conversation one of the most overrated fighters who cheated in his biggest fight.
